HEADS UP!!
🚧 🚧 🚧

The Lee Acres Bridge will be CLOSED tomorrow, October 28, 2021 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm so construction crews can demolish the old bridge. Barricading and signage will be in place. If you’re planning on traveling that way during this time, please find an alternate route.

What does this mean? Well... we’re getting close to completion! When the bridge opens up at 3:00 pm drivers will be driving on the NEW BRIDGE!

Detours stink but hey, it’s for a great reason!

HEADS UP!

The bridge on Road 5500 will be CLOSED on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you travel that way, please find an alternate route during those hours.

Crews will be relocating traffic control devices and when it is reopened, traffic will be using the new part of the bridge (HURRAY!)

This means that we are halfway done! Once traffic is rerouted, work will begin to demolish the old part of the bridge and build the other half.

Thanks for your patience!!!

Apparently we DO do it all! Awesome job to our “LARD” unit, hey Chief Richards, how do we join??

Also, we heard that San Juan County Fire & Rescue - District 2 Flora Vista had a cat on a power pole rescue the other day, so it looks like San Juan County Sheriff's Office, NM’s Animal Control is getting some competition!!

Come hang out with us! To apply call (505) 334-1180 and ask to talk with Chief Richards.

Starting July 20, 2021, burn permits will again be issued for open burning.

Burning will only be allowed between 7:00 am and 12:00 pm on days with favorable weather conditions.

Please remember that while we have received some moisture, much of San Juan County remains in an Extreme Drought. We will likely remain in Extreme Drought until we receive an extended period of long duration, area-wide moisture. We will continue to carefully monitor environmental conditions for Wildland Fire Danger.

The allowed hours for Open Burning will be strictly enforced.

We’ll be out on July 4th making sure that everyone is safe and having a fun time at McGee Park.

Stop by and say hi when you see us!

It is fireworks season again, and we are again opening the north parking lot to folks who want to light fireworks and stay away from fire danger!

We have trash cans out for you to throw away trash (PLEASE clean up after yourself!!)

No alcohol is allowed and we hope you will be courteous to others in the parking lot. Space is first-come, first-serve.

Please be safe with fire and fireworks this season! The San Juan County NM Commission has already restricted the sale of certain fireworks and acted as far as state law allows. (State law does not allow the outright ban of firework sales. If you would like that changed, contact your state legislator)

No one likes construction, but we’re glad this has finally come to life!!

Avoiding the bridge as much as possible right now will certainly help the construction crews out, but it will also help emergency vehicles that have to cross.

We can’t wait to see the finished project just like you!

In case you haven’t looked outside lately, the rain is really coming down! I know all of us are jumping at the sight of this much needed moisture but, remember that we’re still in an exceptional drought even after all this rain is done!

Remember not to burn even if you think your fuel is “wet enough.” We’d really like to see you, but not under those circumstances! Enjoy this rain, I know we are!

Starting this Saturday San Juan County will be under a no burning order until further notice. No open burning is allowed!

We’re in for a busy fire season and we’re hoping you’ll do your part ... Don’t let fire start!

Starting Saturday, there will be no burn permits issued for people living in Bloomfield, Kirtland, and the unincorporated part of the county.

This is because of the extremely dry conditions and no real relief in sight any time soon.

We are also asking people to be extra cautious with anything that could start a fire or cause sparks!

While you were sleeping:

Last night around 12:30 AM several SJCFR crews were dispatched to the area between the 1 and 2 mile marker on County Road 4800. By the time the fire was contained it had burned an estimated 50 acres and threatened to burn numerous houses on both the north and south side of CR4800 after the fire jumped across the road. At the time of this post the fire is being monitored by several crews who will stay on scene until we are confident the fire is completely mitigated. There is no continued threat to life or property as a result of this fire. This fire was driven by a combination of factors including dry vegetation, wind, and lack of moisture.

While the cause of the fire is undetermined at this point, it is not unreasonable to think that the blaze could have been caused by something as small as a discarded cigarette. We have said it multiple times and will continue to warn that fire conditions are extremely dangerous heading into spring and summer. This fire was the second large brush fire that we have experienced in San Juan County this year. Please be aware of the weather conditions and stay safe and responsible with any potential ignition sources you may be using.

Here are some simple things to remember to keep us all fire safe:

1. Don’t burn without a permit. When you have a burn permit, we are better informed. This allows us to plan our resources and provide the best response possible.

2. If you are burning, NEVER leave the fire unattended.

3. When you have any kind of fire ensure it is completely out and cooled before you leave it.

4. To protect yourself and your loved ones from out of control fires ensure there are no weeds or other dry vegetation within 30 feet of your home.

5. NEVER discard smoking materials outside for any reason.

By following these tips we can all help reduce fire danger in our community.

Thanks to everyone involved in this morning’s fire.

Glad to see Clarissa is back home! Welcome back and we can’t wait to see you next to us!

Over the weekend we were so excited to welcome Clarissa John back home! You might have seen Clarissa’s story, she was suddenly diagnosed with a brain tumor a few weeks ago. Thankfully her doctors were able to successfully perform brain surgery and completely remove the tumor. She was released from UNM to come back to Farmington for some rehabilitation. We hope to see Clarissa back in the station soon! Thank you so much to our amazing community for supporting Clarissa and her family during this difficult time!

Tonight was our Chief's meeting. Usually, this meeting involves the District Chiefs discussing a variety of business with the Fire Chief and his Deputies, but tonight we added something special. We invited the nominees for our 2020 Firefighter of the Year to join us for the presentation of the award. This video is a quick run-through of all the nominees. The firefighter in this video was nominated by their peers at the district level. To be nominated for this award is a great accomplishment and all of these firefighters deserve recognition for that. Please join us in congratulating the 2020 Firefighter of the Year award nominees! Keep an eye on our social media pages Friday 6/18/21 to see who was given the award.
