The Farmington Fire Department is proud to officially place our two new fire engines—Engine 1 and Engine 2—into service.

As part of a long-standing fire service tradition, crews transferred water from the old engines into the new ones, symbolizing the passing of service and responsibility from one generation of apparatus to the next. The engines were then pushed into the bay by hand, honoring the firefighters who served before us and marking the beginning of these engines’ service to our community.

These engines were purchased using New Mexico Capital Outlay funds, and we want to recognize the teamwork that made this possible. Thank you to state legislators, the City of Farmington, and IAFF Local 2850 for advocating and working together to secure the funding needed to keep our department equipped with modern, reliable apparatus.

Engine 1 and Engine 2 will serve on the front lines protecting Farmington for many years to come. We’re proud of our crews, grateful for the support, and committed to continuing to serve this community with professionalism and pride.

New Roadway Safety Technology Coming to Farmington

Farmington Fire Department is taking road safety to the next level with Safety Cloud by HAAS Alert, launching January 2026.

This technology sends digital alerts to nearby drivers when our emergency vehicles are responding to an incident or working along a roadway, giving you earlier notice to slow down and move over.

You may see these alerts:
• On in-dash systems in 2024 and newer Volkswagen vehicles
• On in-dash systems in 2018 and newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, & RAM vehicles
• Through navigation apps like Waze and Apple Maps

By providing extra time to react, Safety Cloud helps reduce collision risks by up to 90 percent and supports compliance with New Mexico’s Move Over law.

Let’s work together to keep our firefighters, first responders, and community safe. Please share this post to help spread the word.

Thanksgiving Safety Reminder 🦃
As you prepare for a day filled with cooking and celebration, the Farmington Fire Department encourages everyone to make safety part of the holiday plan.

General cooking safety tips:
• Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop.
• Keep kids and pets at least three feet away from hot surfaces.
• Keep flammable items away from the stove.
• Test smoke alarms before the big day.
• If a small grease fire starts, turn off the heat and cover the pan with a lid. Never use water.

Turkey fryer safety:
• Never fry a frozen or partially thawed turkey. Ice and water cause dangerous oil splatter and flare-ups.
• Thaw your turkey completely in the refrigerator before cooking.
• Use fryers outdoors on a flat, sturdy, non-wood surface.
• Keep a three-foot safety zone around the fryer.
• Never leave the fryer unattended.
• Have a dry-chemical fire extinguisher nearby.

A little preparation helps protect your home and loved ones.
Stay safe and enjoy a warm Thanksgiving, Farmington! 🧡

Reminder: 2025 Full-Scale Drill

On Wednesday, September 17, from 7:00 a.m. to noon, San Juan County will be conducting its annual Full-Scale Drill.

Locations & Impacts:
• San Juan County Adult Detention Center: Lobby will be closed until noon.
• San Juan Regional Medical Center (Emergency Department): Simulated mass medical surge event. The lobby will remain open.

Expect to see a large presence of first responders and hear increased emergency radio traffic in the area. This is only a training exercise.

These annual drills help prepare first responders for large-scale emergencies and ensure we can continue to provide the highest level of service to our community.

There should be no impact to the public during this drill.

Thank you for your patience and support as we train to keep San Juan County safe.

2025 Full Scale Drill
Every year, local first response agencies partner for a Full-Scale Drill and exercise first response special teams.

This year's Full Scale Drill will be held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday, September 17, between 7:00 am and noon. The SJCADC lobby will be closed until noon on Sept. 17.

At the same time, San Juan Regional Medical Center will hold a simulated mass medical surge event at the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department lobby will remain open.

You can expect large concentrations of first responders at both locations and simulated emergency radio traffic.

San Juan County’s annual drill is a valuable training mechanism for all first responders and those who may be involved in a large-scale emergency as well as exercising skills of specialty teams like SWAT and bomb squad. This experience is another way San Juan County’s first responders maintain a high level of service for the citizens through ongoing partnerships between first response and support agencies.

There should be no impact on the public during the drill.

San Juan County Office of Emergency Management holds the drill every year and wishes to thank partners from Farmington Police, Farmington Fire, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, San Juan County Fire & Rescue, San Juan County Communications Authority, and San Juan Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Services. The local Red Cross, New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and Northwest New Mexico EmComm Group will support the drill.
