There is a flood watch posted for portions of San Juan County, and rain is in the forecast this week.
Yes, we will all believe it when we see it, but wouldn't you rather be prepared?

Since there is already high moisture content in the soil, the possibility of runoff is much higher.

Make sure you have supplies (food, water, fuel) and everything that could be washed away is secured.
If you are in a flood-prone area, have evacuation plans and backup plans.

And keep an eye on the sky.

The warning is currently posted for the southeastern portions of the County on Tuesday and Wednesday, but things can change. That's why it's called a forecast, not a certainty.

It's better to be prepared now.

The road will remain closed overnight at the 2 mile marker, near NM371. NDOT will mobilize equipment in the morning to clear mud off the road. Continue to seek an alternate route.

The alerts from US National Weather Service Albuquerque New Mexico are coming in very fast- there are pockets of thunderstorms around the county and localized flash flooding.

Rather than try to keep up with ad fast as they are coming in, be aware of the conditions around you, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management will conduct the 2026 San Juan County Full-Scale Drill.

The drill will take place at McGee Park, 41 Road 5568, at the intersection of US 64 and Road 5500. Police, fire department, and emergency medical service (EMS) activity will begin around 7:00 am and conclude at noon.

This is a continuation of the full-scale drill series that SJCOEM has been coordinating for first responders on an annual basis.
Local hospitals will also participate. San Juan Regional Medical Center, at 801 W Maple in Farmington, and Exceptional Community Hospital, at 2670 Pinon Frontage in Farmington, will receive simulated patients to test the capabilities of both facilities. Patients may be transported to the facilities by SJRMC ambulances or AIT ambulances. Both hospital emergency departments will remain open throughout the drill.

McGee Park will be closed to the public during the drill; however, Sunray Casino will remain open and can be accessed from the main parking lot.

The public can expect large concentrations of first responders at McGee Park. There will be simulated emergency radio transmissions on public safety frequencies.

There should be no impact on the public during the drill.

🐎 Open Riding Update

Just a heads-up to our riders—there will be NO Open Riding Monday, September 14 through Thursday, September 17.

McGee Park will be closed September 15–16, and the arenas will remain unavailable for Open Riding for the remainder of the week.

Thank you for your understanding! Give those horses a little extra love during the week off, and we’ll be ready to saddle back up with you the following week!
