The members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss involving a pilot from the Maine Warden Service in the Town of Avon today.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the pilot’s family, friends, and the entire Maine Warden Service family during this incredibly difficult time. Incidents like this are a solemn reminder of the risks faced every day by those who serve the people of Maine — often under challenging and dangerous conditions, and frequently far from public view.

The Maine Warden Service has long been a trusted partner and an organization made up of dedicated professionals who serve with courage, skill, and commitment. Today, we stand beside them in grief and support.

Please keep everyone affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

We are heartbroken to share that a Maine Game Warden died this morning following a plane crash in Avon, near Schoolhouse Pond. The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m.

This is a devastating loss for the Maine Warden Service, our Department, and the people of Maine. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy.

We will share additional information as it becomes available.

On May 5, Hunter Lowell was officially recognized by the Franklin County Commissioners as one of the newest supervisors at the Regional Communication Center.

Hunter is the epitome of professionalism, dedication, and leadership, and this promotion is both well-earned and well-deserved. We are proud to have him serving the citizens of Franklin County in this important role.

Pictured here with his family in the foreground and the Commissioners in the background, this moment reflects not only Hunter’s achievement, but also the support of those who stand beside him every step of the way. Congratulations, Hunter!

We will continue to argue our case before the legislature. County jails are the “emergency rooms” of the criminal justice system. Gone are the days where we just incarcerate those who violate the law; today, we struggle with drug and alcohol addiction and mental health issues, among other complexities.

County officials say they appreciate no cuts being made to jail funding, but say the lack of more money in the face of quickly rising costs is burdening local property taxpayers.
