Happy June from Curby! ☀️♻️

Did you know the Town of Brookhaven has been recycling since 1988? Since then, we have kept a tremendous amount of material from being wasted. Over the last quarter-century alone, residents like you have kept over 1.1 billion pounds of recyclables out of the trash. That’s more than 2,500 Statues of Liberty! 🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽

As the Town of Brookhaven celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary, Supervisor Panico has launched a giveaway of 250 Curby Cans to encourage recycling. Adult residents may enter one time, and a maximum of one Curby Can could be received by a single household. Entries will be accepted now through November 8th, and winners will be selected thereafter in conjunction with America Recycles Day. Enter for your chance to win and find other Brookhaven 250 celebrations at BrookhavenNY.gov/250.

What is Household Hazardous Waste and how do you get rid of it?

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) refers to chemicals that cannot go in the regular garbage. This includes:
• Pesticides & Herbicides
• Disinfectants
• Bathroom cleaners
• Used motor oil
• Fluorescent bulbs
• Rechargeable batteries
A complete list can be found at BrookhavenNY.gov.

These items are accepted at the Town of Brookhaven’s STOP Facility located at 350 Horseblock Road, Brookhaven, NY 11719.

In addition, some HHW items can be brought to relevant businesses in NYS. For example, used motor oil can be brought to most service stations and auto parts stores. Rechargeable batteries can be brought to any retailer that sells them.

Paint no longer goes to the STOP Program – instead, it can be recycled at the Town’s PaintCare site directly adjacent to the STOP Program or at any participating PaintCare site.
