We are far from over with the Cottonwood fire but the first thing comes to mind is speechless. From the donations to the fire hall of supplies, mutual aid, farmers, ranchers, and neighbors, what we witnessed was incredible and full of selflessness. No one froze, no one said no, no one said me first. We all just got after the task at hand and took care of business. You never want to experience something like this, let alone anywhere, but especially at home. Then you look around and see what makes it great to live where we do. Farmers, ranchers, and neighbors all scrambling to help save each others livelihoods, homes, possessions, etc. 92!!!! 92 different fire departments dropped everything at home and came to help here. They came to support us even though coming to help us meant time away from their families, giving up days at their jobs that they rely on to take care of their families, and gave up the comfort and safety of their homes to be here to help us. What an incredible act of selflessness, compassion, and commitment to answer the call. This was a lot of bad but there has been good come from it too. It showed us that the real world is still here, the one that looked out for one another, cared for one another, and put ourselves last to love our neighbors. I hope we never experience anything like this again, but if we do I want to fight it with every single one of you again just like we did it this time. We can’t say thank you enough to all of you for coming to help us protect our community, whether it was helping pack up, haul water, moving livestock, passing on information, disking fields, or living on a fire truck for 4 days with no sleep. This could have been so much worse if it wasn’t for each and everyone of you. With every ounce of gratitude, praise, and sincerity, we thank you.
