The Greensburg-based 14th Quartermaster Company recently celebrated their post-Annual Training family day picnic at the Spc. Anthony Eric Madison, Sr. Veterans Memorial Park in Monessen. The unit continues to honor its lineage and the sacrifice made on February 25, 1991, when 13 Soldiers of the 14th Quartermaster Detachment were killed and 43 wounded during a Soviet-designed Scud (short-range ballistic missile) attack in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The 14th and 254th Quartermaster Companies recently returned from WAREX at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst!

During the exercise, both units sharpened their MOS-specific skills while also completing weapons training, driver’s training, and more. Leadership from the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) visited during the event, including 316th ESC Deputy Commanding Officer Col. Nagel, 475th QM Group Commander Col. Proctor, and 327th QM Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Prah.

Great work by all Soldiers involved in maintaining readiness and building capability!

On Saturday, 12 July 2025, the 327th Quartermaster Battalion (PETRL), based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, held its Change of Command Ceremony at the Williamsport Armed Forces Reserve Center.

The battalion bid farewell to outgoing commander Lieutenant Colonel James Rude and his family, thanking him for his dedicated service and leadership over the past two years. We also warmly welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Rob Prah, Jr. and his family to the team.

Colonel James Proctor, Jr., Commander of the 475th Petroleum Group, presided over the ceremony.

The 327th Quartermaster Battalion, composed of units across Pennsylvania, is grateful for Lieutenant Colonel Rude’s leadership and looks forward to continued success under Lieutenant Colonel Prah’s command.

On this day, February 25th, we pause to honor the brave Soldiers of the 14th Quartermaster Detachment who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Desert Storm.

On February 25, 1991, at 12:23 EST, an Iraqi SCUD missile struck the barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where the unit was housed. The attack resulted in the greatest number of casualties suffered by any allied unit during the conflict, claiming the lives of 13 Soldiers and wounding 43 others.

The 14th Quartermaster Detachment played a vital role in the liberation of Kuwait, and their sacrifice stands as a lasting reminder of the cost of freedom. Today, the 475th Quartermaster Group remembers and honors their legacy, ensuring their service is never forgotten.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Jimmy Carter: Navy Veteran, Governor of Georgia, and 39th President of the United States.

Jimmy Carter proudly served in the Navy, deploying on surface ships and submarines before joining the nuclear submarine program—a service he called his life’s proudest accomplishment. As President, he continued his commitment to Veterans, signing laws to support jobless and disabled Veterans, granting Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) military status, and creating the VA State Cemetery Grants Program.

Beyond his presidency, Carter’s life reflected humility, faith, and selfless service. He was a champion for the marginalized, a devoted husband, and a tireless advocate for mental health and democracy.

As we remember his remarkable contributions, we are reminded of his words: “Honor our Veterans not only with special ceremonies… but also by committing ourselves to ensuring the freedoms they helped preserve remain secure for future generations.”

As winter sets in, we want to remind everyone to stay vigilant against the risks posed by snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. These conditions can lead to unexpected injuries like frostbite, hypothermia, and heart strain from overexertion.

💡 Did You Know?
- Frostbite happens when skin freezes due to extreme cold.
- Hypothermia occurs when your body loses heat faster than it can produce it.
- Heart strain can result from sudden, intense physical exertion in the cold.

To keep yourself, your loved ones, and your community safe this season, follow these tips:
✅ Stay informed: Listen to local officials for weather updates and safety guidance.
✅ Prepare emergency supplies: Stock up on essentials like food, water, and first aid kits for home and work.
✅ Use generators safely: Place them at least 20 feet from doors and windows, and keep them shielded from rain or flooding to avoid electrical shock.
✅ Watch for cold-weather injuries: Know the signs of frostbite (numbness, pale skin) and hypothermia (shivering, confusion, or drowsiness).
✅ Avoid overexertion: Cold weather reduces blood flow. Pace yourself and take breaks as needed.
✅ Pack a car emergency kit: Include a charger, blankets, warm clothes, a snow shovel, a flashlight with batteries, jumper cables, water, and snacks.
