On Thursday August 20th the Citizens Volunteer Fire Company and the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company Station 57 met at George’s Customs Towing to go through winch training and to showcase what equipment as far as winching both our companies carry.

Crews went over winch safety, rigging, techniques and even got the change to try each others winches. Winching can be a vital piece to the fire service. Whether we are reaching remote areas on brush fires or rescues or aiding in vehicle extrication and stabilization.

A special thank you to George’s Customs Towing for their use of their impound lot, a vehicle and their employees Jacob (CVFC Firefighter) and Travis (Chief 56-1) for teaching the companies some techniques and reaffirming safety when winching. Assistance from companies like these is how we continue to learn and blend that relationship together if we ever need to work together.

The citizens Volunteer Fire Company sends its thoughts and prayers to Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. and to the Barben family for the loss of Ronnie Barben. Ronnie’s legacy will never be forgotten. His service to his neighbors over the decades is what the true heart of a Volunteer exemplifies. Rest easy Ronnie!

It is with great sadness that the Whiteford VFC Officers and membership announce the passing of Company Patriarch and Life Member Ronnie Barben on August 25, 2026.
Ronnie dedicated more than 50 years of service to both the Delta-Cardiff and Whiteford Volunteer Fire Companies. Throughout his many years of service, Ronnie proudly served as Chief Engineer and as a Board Director, leaving behind a lasting legacy of dedication, leadership, and commitment to the fire service and his community.

Funeral arrangements will be announced once they have been finalized.

Please keep Wilma, Steve, Joanna, and the entire Barben family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Thank you for a lifetime of service, Ronnie. Your dedication, leadership, mentorship, and friendship will never be forgotten.

Your legacy will live on in the hearts of all those you touched. Rest easy, Ronnie we got it from here.

Conditions upon arrival on Box 57-05

08/08/2026

Dwelling Fire – Peach Bottom Township

At approximately 1304 hours Engine 56 and Supply 56 were dispatched to assist the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company Station 57, with a reported dwelling fire in Peach Bottom Township.

Engine 56 responded with a crew of six personnel within one minute of dispatch, as members were already at the station after handling a fire alarm in Fawn Borough shortly before the incident.

Chief 57-2 arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the structure, prompting the assignment to be upgraded to a working fire.

Engine 56 arrived as the first-due engine. The crew immediately deployed an attack line and initiated an interior fire attack. The fire was found to be primarily contained to the attic space. Following the initial attack and knockdown, Engine 56 personnel remained on scene and assisted with overhaul operations.

Supply 56 established a water-supply operation at a nearby creek, providing a fill site for tankers as needed throughout the incident.

Company 56 crews operated on scene for approximately 110 minutes before being released.

While crews were committed to the dwelling fire, remaining personnel at Station 56 continued to provide coverage for the district, handling an additional first-due response. The company was also dispatched for another fire alarm; however, Station 56 was canceled after a unit clearing the dwelling fire became available to handle the call.

As a department we have been extremely busy the past few weeks between fires, accidents, fundraising and normal day to day operations. But let’s put that on hold for a moment.

So often we tend to overlook major milestones. Today we bring that to the foreground.

After months of long evenings, long days and countless academic and physical challenges our very own Austin Neely has passed his firefighter one. A major milestone while a majority of that time still keeping up with his grades at KDHS! This family since joining has jumped in wherever they were needed and today we single out Austin for his hard work and dedication!

If you see Austin congratulate him on his achievement and we look forward to see what other things this young man has in store!

At 17:52 hrs Station 56 and surrounding mutual aid departments were alerted for a residential structure fire in the 3300 blk of New park rd. York County dispatched advised chief 56 while enroute they were receiving multiple calls for a house on fire. Chief 56 arrived finding a two story residential with smoke showing from the second floor. E-56 arrived advancing a 1 3/4 hand line to the second floor knocking the fire assisted by Tanker 56 and Truck 54.

Additional mutual aid departments from both York and Harford counties assisted with overhaul throughout the residence. At this time the fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty air conditioner. Red Cross was notified and will be assisting the residents in their time of need. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

We again would like to thank Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company for filling us in with an engine while we worked the fire.
