Join us for an evening of discovery at Gouldsburg Park!

We'll meet at the picnic shelter to learn some fascinating facts about dragonflies before heading out on a short walk through the woods. Our adventure will take us to the river, where we'll search for dragonflies in their various life stages and discover other wildlife along the way. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, optional to bring or wear waterproof shoes or other footwear you don't mind getting wet if you'd like to explore along the river's edge.

This family-friendly program is a great opportunity to learn about these incredible insects and experience the natural beauty of Gouldsburg Campground. We hope to see you there!

We had to make a tough decision for our BBQ in the park that was scheduled for today. Based on radar predictions we are due for more rain at the time of the BBQ and have decided to postpone the BBQ until next week. We will be having the BBQ on Monday. July 27th. We will have the same great food, music and activities on the 27th. Please share!

UPDATE - with the just announced tornado watch until 10pm I think we made the right call for everyone's safety.

Recycle Your Bicycle Program Diverted Nearly 100 Bikes from Landfills!🚲♻️

In honor of Bike Month, Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) and Fayette County Conservation offered a Recycle Your Bicycle program again this May, helping keep bicycles out of local landfills through community reuse and recycling efforts.

Safe Routes to School staff and volunteers sorted the bicycles donated at UERPC’s office, identifying those that could be repaired and salvaging usable parts from those beyond repair. Repairable bicycles were moved into storage for future restoration, while Winneshiek County Recycling collected the remaining bicycle frames for recycling.

A Safe Routes to School volunteer is currently restoring several bicycles using salvaged components from the program. Once completed, organizers plan to rotate additional bicycles from storage into the workshop as they continue building a bicycle fleet for future Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and other community programs.

The program successfully encouraged residents to donate, exchange, and reuse bicycles that might otherwise have been discarded. Organizers estimate that the partnership between UERPC and Fayette County Conservation diverted about 100 bicycles from local landfills, giving new life to bikes that can now be reused by community members and future SRTS participants.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Third Thursday Hike at Gilbertson Campground! 🌿🥾

Despite the heat and humidity, we had an amazing evening exploring the Walnut Trail at Gilbertson Campground together. From shady woodlands and winding creeks to beautiful prairie views, it was the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors with great company.

We're already excited for our next hike! Join us on August 20 as we explore the Beeghly Trail in Fayette. Keep an eye out for event details the week before; we can't wait to hit the trail with you again! 🌲🥾
