Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation's veterans

community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. Fayette's post 273 is led by commander Dennis Barton, a Fayette resident. The main focuses are philanthropy towards veteran organizations, Boys State, Coyote Hill and several others

Flag Retirement. Howard County American Legion Post #273 is holding a Flag Retirement on Flag Day 14 June 2026 at noon. We already have quite a collection of Flags to be retired but still have room for more. If you have a Flag that needs to be retired, bring it to the Post.

On 14 May 26 Howard County American Legion Post #273 members George Befort (2X Purple Heart Decorated), Kirk Klingler and Richard Smith attended the Purple Heart Trail Dedication Ceremony in Salisbury, Missouri becoming the latest city in Missouri to join the Purple Heart Trail, https://www.purpleheart.org/. George has had a determined goal of making Missouri the 1st State in America to have all Counties designated as Purple Heart Counties and George has been successful! Great work George!

All proceeds will go to help pay for the New Building at the Howard County Fairgrounds. We will also be accepting donations for the New Building. Come on out and enjoy a Smoked Pork Chop, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Dessert and a Drink for $15.
