The City of Fayette's boil advisory has been lifted, effective August 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.

08/01/2018

The City of Fayette is currently under a boil advisory. City crews repaired a 10" water line that was accidently hit with a boring machine. Since water pressure in many areas of the city drop below the standards required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources the city is issuing an immediate boil advisory effective August 1, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. for all residences and businesses who receive water from the City of Fayette. The following precautions need to be taken for the boil advisory: 1. Boil water vigorously for three minutes prior use. Use only water that has been been boiled for drinking, diluting fruit juices, and all other food preparation and brushing teeth. 2. Dispose of ice cubes and do not use from a household automatic ice maker. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled. 3. Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water. 4. Continue boiling all water that is to be used for cooking and drinking until notified that the boil advisory has been lifted. Note: Let water cool sufficiently before drinking. Water used for bathing does not need to be boiled. Should you have questions regarding the boil advisory, please contact City Hall at 660/248-5246 or the Utility Office at 660/248-2214.

The Board of Aldermen of the City of Fayette held an emergency meeting this morning at 8:30 a.m. to discuss repealing Ordinance No. 18-07 that was passed and approved on May 15, 2018. Ordinance 18-07 was approved to enable the City of Fayette, Missouri to provide for payment to members of the municipal fire department for call outs and to provide for a monthly payment to the fire chief, as independent contractors of the City of Fayette. The ordinance was to make clear the members of the department are independent contractors under federal and state law. It addresses call out pay, the provision and payment of 1099’s, and payment to the fire chief. It also addressed the payments to members of a legislative office and executive office. The initial discussion that brought this ordinance forward was a question regarding whether or not elected officials could be paid for fire calls. During research of how the city makes payments to the fire department it was discovered that the city did not have an ordinance establishing the fire department.

The Board of Aldermen did vote this morning on Ordinance No. 18-08 to repeal Ordinance No. 18-07. Ordinance 18-08 was read in its entirety, passed and approved. Mayor Stidham and the Board of Aldermen apologize to the firemen and the public for misunderstanding of the ordinance. It is the intention of the Board of Aldermen to continue working with the Fayette Fire Department to provide a resolution.

A copy of the Ordinance #18-07 and Ordinance #18-08 are attached.
