Chris Champion here. Long post alert!
Needless to say, it's been a challenging week for us at Fayette Park & Rec.
I wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to not only our Park Crew - O.P. Morgan, Joseph Brock, Kyle Taylor, Morris "Moose" Moore, and Lorenza Woods, but also to our City Maintenance guys, Joey Byars and Hunter Jamerson. These men have gone above and beyond over the last three days to not only do the things they do every day, but also the added duties that came with the storm damage we had. These guys work hard every day to make our Park the best it can possibly be, and this small setback is just a bump in the road.
Also a big shoutout to Marty Weeks and his crew from the Street Department for all their help in getting things cleaned up.
As you may have seen in our previous post, we are moving some games to other fields to avoid the damage at the Buster Hallman Field building.
Because of that, I also want to publicly thank Pepsi Cola Dr. Pepper of Winfield. We contacted them Thursday to inquire about the scoreboards on two of our fields that haven't been used in some time. Neal Pate was here in a flash and within about two hours after realizing the boards were inoperable, brought us two new scoreboards and he and his crew are finishing installation as I type this.
While I'm handing out thanks, we also want to thank the countless members of our community that have offered help during the storm damage clean-up. We are mighty proud of all the comments we have received not only in the last few days, but also almost every day of the year about how nice our Park is and how proud the community is of our Park. We know that we will never make everyone happy, but all of us do all we can every day to make Guthrie Smith Park the best it possibly can be.
Finally, although we can't officially announce anything yet, we are cautiously optimistic that we will able to make improvements to all seven of our ballfields as well as our tennis courts in the near future. Stay tuned!
As always, if you have any questions about anything related to the Park, feel free to call us at 205-932-4327, send us a Facebook message, or email us at [email protected] .
