While we wait for cooler weather to finally show up, a few small changes around the house can help keep your energy use in check:
• Set your thermostat as high as comfortably possible and avoid big temperature swings.
• Use ceiling fans when you’re in the room to help you feel cooler without lowering the thermostat.
• Keep blinds and curtains closed during the hottest parts of the day, especially on sun-facing windows.
• Run dishwashers, dryers, and other heat-producing appliances during cooler parts of the day when possible.
• Check your HVAC filter and replace it if it’s dirty. A clean filter helps your system work more efficiently.
• Seal gaps around windows and doors to keep that expensive cool air where it belongs.
