Our guest speaker Tuesday evening was Hannah Faulkner, Development Director/Volunteer Support Manager, from Junior's House Inc Child Advocacy Center & CASA Program. Junior’s House is a non-profit agency providing prevention, intervention, and treatment services to physically and sexually abused children. It operates in Lincoln County and 3 adjacent Tennessee counties. Their stated mission is to bring abused kids into a safe space to begin the healing process.

Hannah described the team approach that brings counselors, therapists, Department of Children's Services, law enforcement, judicial services, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) together to ensure every child receives the help and support they need. She also highlighted a need for CASA volunteers who are assigned one child at a time to usher through the court process. Junior's House provides those volunteers training and mentoring so they can ensure each child has a swift and sensitive journey through the court system.

The club was also excited to have as our guest Will Pettie from Fayetteville High School. Will was a member of the FHS Leo Club for 4 years. He was just awarded one of our "Era P Jones" $1,500 college scholarships. Will thanked the club and shared with us that he plans to attend Motlow State, then Tennessee Tech to pursue an engineering degree.

We hope to have our other two scholarship winners with us at an upcoming meeting.

The Gift of Sight & Scripture πŸ“–πŸ¦

Today was a special day for the Fayetteville TN Lions Club! Lions Myrna Reed and Chris Ross had the honor of delivering a low vision machine to a local Lincoln County resident, and the impact was immediate.

Her first reaction? Pure joy at being able to read her Bible and devotionals again. But the excitement doesn't stop thereβ€”she’s already planning a trip to the library this week to stock up on books! πŸ“š

This project is made possible by your support to Middle Tennessee Lions Sight Service!

Our guest speaker at our Fayetteville Lions Club meeting on Tuesday evening was Corey Buckner of the Fayetteville based nonprofit Always Endure . Corey and his wife Brittany were the founders of Always Endure which has steadily grown in impact and geographic breadth since its start 10 years ago. Their mission statement is: "For the glory of God, Always Endure exists to remove financial barriers for adoptive families, barriers to care for patients enduring major medical diagnoses, and barriers to placement for children in foster care."

Corey shared info and inspirational stories about each of those mission areas. He gave an update on the the very successful operation of their House of Hope which has opened since his last visit to our club. It provides a comfortable, safe home environment for children as they wait for foster placement. He also shared the many ways that the public can donate their time or treasure to Always Endure's services.

One of the major fundraisers for Always Endure is the 12th Annual Slawburger Chase 5k, coming up very soon on Saturday, April 18, 2026!!

The Fayetteville Lions collected used eyeglasses, hearing aids, print cartridges and cell phones as a participant in the Chamber of Commerce "Don't Be Fooled" Day on April 1st.

If you missed it, don't worry. You can drop off those items any day of the year into one of our yellow "mailboxes" at the Recycle Center, Senior Center, or Holt's IGA, or a smaller collection box at Carter's Drug Store or the Lincoln County Mayor's Office.

🦁 Our guest speakers at Tuesday evening's meeting of the Fayetteville Lions were John Woodall, President, and Eugene Ham, Board Member, of the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Museum & Civic Center We thank them for their excellent talks! Eugene led off by sharing the history of the building that houses the museum. It was a Borden plant that was built in 1927 and ceased operations in 1967. It took advantage of the thriving dairy cattle business in Lincoln and surrounding counties, purchasing milk from over 1,200 farmers. The local raw milk was converted into butter and residual skimmed milk was converted into dried or powdered milk. The plant and its thriving business helped get this region through the Great Depression years. In later years the plant also produced cottage cheese and its high-bay area drying equipment was used to produce high quantities of dry milk, eggs and even lemons that were shipped to both the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II.

John Woodall provided updates on the Museum's success in acquiring grants, mostly from the State of Tennessee, for major building upkeep. Funding is in place to begin roof replacement on the third section of the museum, this time over the agricultural implements displays and high bay. They are seeking grants for the fourth and final area of roofing and for window replacement and repair in the Event Center area. The F-LC Museum Association is a nonprofit organization that gladly accepts donations. The Museum is operated entirely by volunteers, and its operating budget is made possible solely through donations and gifts.

Tours of the museum are provided free of charge by volunteer docents, and the event center is available for public rentals. ( www.flcmuseum.org/rentals ) The museum is routinely open in May through November, on Thursday-Saturday 12:30-4:30 P.M. Special tours and group accommodations are available by request.

The Fayetteville Lions also celebrated its 79th Birthday with cake and ice cream. Our club charter was signed on March 5th, 1947.

The club and Board discussed upcoming projects to include three adhoc Committees: 1) Diabetes Awareness, 2) addition of a second story to one of the concession stands at the Don Davidson/Lions Softball Complex, and 3) our 80th Anniversary celebration in 2027. We also look forward to our 3rd Annual Membership Open House meeting on April 21st.

🦁 πŸ‘“ EYEGLASSES RECYCLING -1,557 PAIRS DELIVERED! The Lions recycle used eyeglasses to make them available to people in developing countries.

We just completed our annual cycle by delivering 1,557 pair of eyeglasses and hundreds of eyeglasses cases to the student organization at the Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in Memphis. Student Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH) members work year-round to prepare for their annual 7-day service trips to the Caribbean, Central and South America. Their activities include collecting, inspecting, sorting by prescription and packing the donated eyeglasses into travel containers, as well as various projects to help finance their travel expenses. Since 1975, SVOSH members have seen over 170,000 patients in 12 different countries. In 2025 they worked with local Lions Clubs in Belize and Ecuador where they gave 1,681 eye exams and distributed 1,015 pair of eyeglasses and 936 sunglasses.

The recycling cycle starts with YOU! If you have eyeglasses, sunglasses or cases collecting dust in your home, you can drop them in one of our bright yellow collection 'mailboxes' at the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center, Holt's IGA or the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Recycle Center. We also have smaller collection boxes in the County Mayor's Office or Carter's Drug Store. This year we assisted the Petersburg Lions Club who also collects eyeglasses, by including their 167 pair of eyeglasses in our delivery to Memphis.

Fayetteville Lions Project Chair Mark Browning collects and boxes the eyeglasses throughout the year. Then on March 8th, committee member Cal Perkins delivered the eyeglasses to the SVOSH-SCO organization in Memphis. Last year Silvana Álvarez, the Lab Coordinator for SVOSH said: "Thank you so much to you and the rest of the Fayetteville Lions Club for this generous donation!! We greatly appreciate your support and will definitely put these glasses to good use!!"

β™» A big "Thank You" to all who recycled their used eyeglasses with us! β€œAlone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller πŸ¦πŸ’›
