**ROUTE UPDATE**

Please see the updated picture of the procession route in honor of Sgt. Fisher. The procession will depart from Flat Creek Trail and travel along Highway 54, turning left onto Jeff Davis Road. The procession will then turn left again and continue to Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, where the procession will conclude.

**TRAFFIC ADVISORY – TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH **

Please be advised that drivers should expect traffic delays on Tuesday, September 8th, beginning around 4:30 p.m. as a funeral procession for Warm Springs Police Officer, Sergeant Fisher travels from Flat Creek Baptist Church to Mowell’s Funeral Home.

The procession will include numerous law enforcement and emergency service vehicles, and traffic may be temporarily slowed or stopped along the procession route.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution around the procession. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community as we come together to honor Sergeant Fisher.

👏 Congratulations Are in Order

Please join us in congratulating Griffin Judicial Circuit Victim Advocate Kia Daniels-Peck on being named the 2026 Task Force Member of the Year by the Georgia Commission on Family Violence!

This is a tremendous honor and the first time in the history of the Griffin Judicial Circuit that one of its members has received this distinguished statewide recognition. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement and the dedication to protecting victims, holding offenders accountable, and strengthening our community’s response to domestic violence.

During the month of August, the Fayetteville Fire Department responded to 423 total dispatches throughout our community.

From medical emergencies and hazardous situations to fires, rescues, and public service calls, our crews remain ready to respond when our community needs us.

Please be on the lookout for Jimmie Steverson, a 23-year-old male, who is wanted in connection with the murder of Warm Springs Police Sergeant Chris Fisher.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Fisher's family, friends, and the members of the Warm Springs Police Department.

UPDATE - 9/2/2026: BLUE ALERT CANCELED

At about 11:39 a.m., the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car in Anderson, SC. Steverson was a passenger in the car

When law enforcement made contact with the car, they discovered Steverson injured from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Steverson was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

A BLUE ALERT has been issued for Jimmie Steverson, age 23. Steverson is wanted for the death of Chris Fisher, a Warm Springs Police Department officer, that occurred on September 1, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. in Warm Springs, GA.

Steverson is a black male, 5’6”, 150 lbs, with black locs and brown eyes. He was last seen in Warm Springs, GA, on September 1, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. Steverson was wearing a black t-shirt and black gym shorts. He was traveling in a 2026 black Chevrolet Silverado.

Steverson is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or see any suspicious activity, please take immediate precautions and notify 911.

The Fayetteville Police Department is reminding everyone that as of August 2, 2026, Fun Spot Amusement Park officially closed and the property is not open for public access.

We know a closed amusement park can be tempting to explore, especially for those who are curious about what’s inside. But please don’t enter the property.

⚠️ There are real safety hazards inside a closed amusement park. Unknown structure conditions, damaged equipment, restricted areas, debris, and other hazards may not be obvious until it’s too late.

What may seem like a quick adventure, photo opportunity, or harmless exploration could result in serious injury.
Please help us prevent an accident before it happens:

🚫 Do not climb the fence.
🚫 Do not enter through openings or gates.
🚫 Do not explore the buildings or attractions.
🚫 Do not enter the property at night.
🚫 If you see someone else going in, don't follow them.
🚫If you see something, say something.

Most importantly, Fun Spot is closed for a reason. Please respect the closure and stay out.

The property remains under video surveillance. Entering the property without authorization is also trespassing and may result in criminal charges. Our goal is to prevent that from happening.

The Fayetteville Police Department would like to congratulate Marvin Vinson on his retirement from the US Army after 40 years combined Active and Reserve service.

Marvin served with the Fayetteville Police in the late 1990s to early 2000s. He served as a patrol officer, a member of the traffic unit, and was assigned to the criminal investigations unit. Marvin left the police department to serve full time in the US Army.

Marvin started his first assignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment where the Ranger Creed and Abram’s Charter became the tenets and foundation of my military service. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t reminisce about his experiences as a member of 1st PLT, B Co., 1/75.

Marvin, we appreciate your service in keeping us all safe and serving our great nation.

From all the members at the Fayetteville Police Department congratulations on your well deserved retirement. Enjoy Sir.

The Fayetteville Police Department and Fayetteville Code Enforcement recently met with the McIntosh Woods HOA at the Fayette County Library to discuss future concerns in the area and provide information on general safety for homeowners.

The community was very appreciative of the opportunity to meet with local officials, share their concerns, and receive valuable information to help promote safety throughout the neighborhood. The meeting was a great example of the importance of communication and partnership between residents and local agencies.
