Congratulations to Janett Miller and Randi Palmieri on successfully completing their Direct Support Professional (DSP) Level II certification from the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals - NADSP !

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the backbone of the community disability services that Employment Source provides to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The NADSP Certification Program is a nationally recognized credentialing pathway that elevates the direct support profession.

Janett and Randi were among the first participants in our pilot program to earn DSP Level I certification and enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to continue their professional growth through DSP Level II certification. The certification program requires DSPs to demonstrate their skills, ethics, and competencies by completing accredited education hours, submitting real world evidence of their work, and participating in reflective practice activities.

Thank you, Janett and Randi, for your unwavering commitment to the individuals we support and for helping to advance our mission. Your passion, hard work, and professionalism play an important role in ensuring that we provide the highest quality services to our participants and the community we serve.

We are grateful to recognize the Alvin R. and Sophia B. Pierce Charitable Endowment of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. for their generous support, which made it possible for Friendship House residents to enjoy a wonderful day at White Lake Water Park.
The friends spent the day relaxing in the lazy river, enjoying the wave pool, and, for the more adventurous among us, taking on some of the park's tallest water slides. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and memorable experiences shared with friends.
As summer winds down, we are already looking forward to cooler weather and our next adventure together, including a fun day of putt-putt golf.
Thank you to the Alvin R. and Sophia B. Pierce Charitable Endowment of Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc.. for helping make days like this possible and for supporting opportunities that enhance the quality of life for the individuals we serve.

Students in our Works For Me pre-employment transition program had an exciting week at Bladen County Summer Camp packed with hands-on experiences and career exploration. From learning about military careers with an Army medic recruiter to visiting the Elizabethtown Fire Department and Elizabethtown Police Department, students gained real-world insight into a variety of professions.
Career exploration exercises included completing vocational interest assessments, learning about careers in agriculture with NC State Extension, the culinary arts, and more. Throughout the week, students also focused on essential life skills like organization, safety, and self-advocacy to better prepare for school, work, and beyond. Role-playing workplace scenarios helped them build confidence and communication skills, while a “Reality of Life” simulation with the North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union taught them about financial literacy and budgeting with a firsthand look at managing income and expenses.
Rounding out the curriculum, sessions on post-secondary education and career resources introduced additional pathways for future success. Overall, the camp provided valuable exposure, practical knowledge, and inspiration as students begin thinking about their future goals and opportunities.
A special thanks to Elizabethtown Police Department Chief of Police Mark McMichael and Elizabethtown Fire Department Fire Chief Hollis Freeman for taking the time to speak with our students.
