Lafayette Memorial Park will be participating in Wreaths Across America for the first time this year.

Feel free to visit their website to see how you can volunteer or request a specific grave be included.

If you would like to be considered for participation in the ceremony, reach out to Kayla at (910) 488-5422. There is a spot for each branch of service to have a representative and for speaking parts and presentation of the flags.

Looks like this year is a lot like last year in some regards…. but with half the staff, twice the funerals and an extra tree down in the storm just to spice things up.

As always, we are closely monitoring the situation and we are aware of the work that needs to be done from the rain we have had over the past several days.

Hurricanes and tropical storms are never fun and we have to unfortunately use a triage type system to decide what happens first. Usually, funerals come first, but we had a HUGE tree come down and it was a danger to all. Next, we have maintenance orders in and we are just waiting on the ground to dry up a bit for those of you waiting for memorials to be installed.

We can’t mow in the rain, so if it seems like the grass is long in some areas, that is because it is. Our dedicated grounds staff is working 7 days a week to keep up with it all.

Next time you are out, thank one of them for sticking with us when others chose to go home and “stay safe” with extra, special unemployment benefits.

If you notice something that needs attention please do not hesitate to give us a call, message or email to inform us. We will add it to our list of maintenance orders and take care of it as soon as humanly possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

FYI: We are also hiring. We need grounds staff desperately! So, if you know anyone who would like to be part of our family, have them call or apply online today!

Hey! Kayla here. So... Just checked the weather and am I delusional or did it say rain is on the forecast for as far as ten days out?! Have we not had enough?! I am not complaining about the cooler weather it has brought or the beautiful sounds against the window panes, but at the cemetery it has made it rough to take care of our maintenance orders. We want every one to know we are closely monitoring the situation and we are aware of the work that needs to be done from the rain we have had over the past several days. We have maintenance orders in and we are just waiting on the ground to dry up a bit. If you notice something that needs attention please do not hesitate to give us a call, message or email to inform us. We will add it to our list of maintenance orders and take care of it as soon as weather permits. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Last week it was announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will provide funeral assistance for deaths associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has been widely reported that FEMA plans to reimburse families up to $7,000 for certain qualified COVID-19 related funeral and burial costs including, but not limited to, interment, burial plots/cremation niches, and bronze and granite markers/headstones.

The funding will be available for qualified costs incurred between January 20, 2020, and December 31, 2020. According to a recent Congressional press conference, Congress will attempt to extend the funding to funerals taking place in 2021, although that is not final or guaranteed.

FEMA will publish details about qualifications and how families can apply for reimbursement in the near future. A general program overview published by the Congressional Research Service is currently available here, although the link has been very inconsistent as information is updated.

When the final program details are released, it may represent an opportunity for you to access and apply for the program and complete other final arrangements.

Our commitment to serving you and the needs of your families remains steadfast. Now more than ever, we are proud to be part of the death care profession, one that is led by compassion and caring for others during difficult times.

This is a great video. Thank you for being patient with us as we work through the pandemic. ❤️

Edit: Yes, unfortunately, the hurricane is why we did not do our customary Veteran's Day flags this year. We hope you all understand.

Update on the weather since we have received a few calls: it looks like last weeks wind was WAY worse on floral arrangements than today’s deluge. From the front porch, I am happy to report that they mostly look like they are staying put.
It has been quiet, so we’ve sent the staff home early in anticipation of any flash flooding. Our poor ducks are wandering around looking lost, but otherwise, we are fairing well.
As always, if you have any questions about our complementary flower tags (to help identify and return lost arrangements) or how to wire your arrangements in (to prevent them from floating or blowing out) we are customarily available from 9-5 Mon-Fri and 10-2 on Sat.
We plan to be back on site tomorrow to help with anything you need!
Stay safe, friends and family!

We have had a lot of questions and concerns regarding tents and chairs in the midst of Covid. We have been following mandates from the Governor from the outset and continue to do so. Since March, we have neither allowed tents nor chairs.

However, we still seem to be having a lot of confusion from funeral homes, etc.

To avoid over-complicating things and to allow for SOME chairs (that are properly disinfected between services and precisely socially distanced), we have decided to include a 10’x20’ faux turf set up and 11 chairs with each of our services.

This set up is provided as a courtesy (no additional charge) to our families as we adjust to these changing times. We hope that this courtesy will help mitigate the inconvenience of not being able to rent the traditional tent and chair set up from their funeral home.

Tents are still not allowed, as they encourage gathering together in a way that is not appropriately distanced, but as soon as we can lift that restriction, we will let you know here.
