We are once again offering the DFEND program in Washington County! The 6-week class will be hosted in Fayetteville. To be considered for the study, you must complete the screening questionnaire below. The DFEND team will be in contact with more information.

Adults aged 18 years and older who live in Arkansas are needed to participate in a nutrition and physical activity education research study. The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Department of Food Science, is conducting the DFEND Study (Delivering Food, Exercise, and Nutrition Education for the Prevention of Chronic Disease) to learn more about how multimedia nutrition and physical activity education can improve everyday health behaviors.

Participants will receive $50 for completing the study!

The study lasts 6 weeks and includes weekly in-person nutrition and physical activity education sessions led by local Cooperative Extension Agents or Team DFEND. The first and final sessions will be approximately 2 hours to allow time for assessments, while the remaining sessions will be about 60 minutes each. You’ll also complete brief surveys and simple health assessments (height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse) before and after the program.

🌱 Arkansas Plant Health Clinic Closure Notice 🌱

The Arkansas Plant Health Clinic will be closed September 7–11.

If you have plants showing signs of disease or other problems, please hold off on bringing plant samples to the Extension Office during this time. This will help prevent samples from sitting too long before they can be properly evaluated.

Walk Across Arkansas begins September 7. Registration opens August 24th. This includes a wide variety of exercise, even time spent doing handicrafts.

Washington County Extension has another food preservation workshop coming up. Participants will have the opportunity to make, and take home, apple butter. We will cover safe food preservation practices and techniques.

Are you interested in getting more involved with Extension Get Fit? Join an upcoming EGF Volunteer Leader Training. Open to new and current volunteers, these trainings also count toward the required training every two years.

We will have 3 sessions available:

🏋️‍♀️Fundamentals Training Session prepares volunteers to safely lead strength-based exercise programs and support participants of varying abilities.

🫀Circuit Training Session provides hands-on experience with circuit-style strength and movement activities.

🧘Chair Yoga Session focuses on safe, accessible movement options that support flexibility, balance, and relaxation.

Our "Money Talk" books have arrived at the Washington County Extension Office. Please call or stop by the office to sign up! This three-part series, held at the extension office, will provide information to help take charge of your financial future. The cost is $5 for a book.
