Last week we welcomed some extra-cute guests before their school year wrapped up! EAST students from Helen Tyson Middle School dropped off an incredible project for our clients. They thoughtfully designed and 3D-printed an assortment of accessibility and assistive tools, including bag carrier handles, pill blister pack openers, pull tab helpers, pen grips, tube squeezers, bottle openers and jar openers. They also put together collaborative craft kits for our volunteers and clients to complete together, and recorded audio collections that can be played on this incredible audio box for our clients with vision impairments. Seeing these young minds apply technology with empathy is incredibly inspiring. A massive thank you to these students and their teacher for their generosity and hard work!

This is the second part of the students’ project. Last year, they created personalized Christmas ornaments for clients. You can see more of their amazing project here: bit.ly/4dzcp8P

Meet one of our clients, Margaret! Growing up on the east coast of South Africa, Margaret loved body surfing. After moving to the U.S., she channeled her passion for books and learning into a fulfilling career as a teacher. Today, Margaret loves the outdoors and is a Master Gardener. Her favorite memory with Senior Support in Action wass our group trip to Crystal Bridges. We love Margaret’s enduring curiosity and passion for nature. She is an absolute joy to be around.

Meet one of our volunteers, Anita! She loves gardening and cooking. She raises bunnies and chickens, and loves being able to spoil our clients with farm fresh eggs. We asked Anita how she became involved with Senior Support in Action: "I started as a way to fulfill my job's requirement for community service. I came to love the people and the community I serve."

We are so thankful for her nurturing spirit, sense of adventure and kind heart.
