Lafayette Huse Veterans Memorial

Lafayette Huse Veterans Memorial What Does Freedom Mean To You? Freedom isn’t free, it is the result of men and woman joining together to take a stand, regardless of the cost.

Our veterans have joined together to represent our nation to assure that through Valor and Perseverance that we will retain the freedom we have grown up with and sometimes take for granted. The American Legion Post #149, Town of Fayetteville and Huse Memorial Park would like you to join with them in a Memorial project to honor all branches of service. This is a big project, but our men and women g

ave big and we feel it is time to give back honor to those for their past and continued dedication. This Memorial will be constructed uniting within a wall the five branches of service, US Army, US Coast Guard, US Navy. US Marines and US Air Force just as they are united in service for our country. Each service flag will fly proudly along side of our American Flag. And of course the POW flag will fly for those missing in action but never forgotten. In the center will be the names of those killed in action and missing in action from the Fayette County area, a special tribute for their ultimate sacrifice. The memorial will be constructed for the purchase and placement of a brick in honor or in memory of Fayette County Veterans. Each brick at the cost of $100.00 will have engraved the Veteran’s Rank, Name and Branch of Service.

May 29, 2022 was a beautiful evening as people came to remember and honor the veterans that gave the ultimate sacrifice, their life, so that we can have the freedoms today. American Legion Post 149's previous Commander, Milt Dotterweich began the service with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Councilperson Lori Tabit welcoming each person. Carla White Phillips led the song God Bless America. Fayetteville Presbyterian Pastor John Holland shared a few words, followed by a sweet prayer. Carla began singing America the Beautiful as her beautiful voice and words broke through the silence of the cemetery. United States Air Force (R) Colonel Rosie Smith, gave a warm Memorial Day Devotion reminding us why we have Memorial Day. Mountain View Church of God Pastor Bill Harmon began the candlelight presentation starting with lighting one candle, sharing the light from candle to candle until each candle was a fire. Off in the distance, Kellie Pittman stood playing taps. After a few moments of silence in the candle lit area, Lighthouse Worship Center Pastor Mike Kees closed the service in prayer. It was a sweet evening to remember and honor our fallen veterans. Thank you to all that came.

We honor those today that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you.
