We really like parks. At Fayetteville Parks and Recreation, we are in the people business! It is our intent that individuals of all abilities, ages, interests and needs feel welcome in our programs and facilities. Fayetteville Parks and Recreation has been recognized as the "Best in Arkansas," but we are not happy with just

"being the best." We constantly add new programs and build new parks to keep up with the needs of our residents. We want to be your number one stop for family fun and recreation. If there are any special accommodations you might need in order to participate, please let us know. Parks and Recreation invites you to enjoy any (and all) of our 70 parks and more than 37.5 miles of paved and natural trails. You may enjoy one of our free Summer Concerts or swim at the Wilson Park Pool. Our bet is that you'll enjoy it all...

Heads up, Centennial Park trail users!

Two trails will be closed to the public this Tuesday for the Fayetteville Junior High Invitational, a cross country meet hosted by Woodland and Ramay junior high schools.

The event will feature 600 runners from throughout the region. The two trails – World Cup and Chasing Gold – will be closed to the public.

Come help clean up Lake Fayetteville!

The Lake Fayetteville Pick Up Where You Play Fall Cleanup is happening Saturday, September 19, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers will collect litter from trails, shoreline, and the water, and paddlers are needed to bring canoes or kayaks to help reach shoreline areas and coves that are difficult to access from land.

All volunteers will check in at the Ozark Natural Science Center at Lake Fayetteville. Parking is limited and participants are asked to carpool or bike if possible. Paddlers, please RSVP in advance. Thanks for helping us keep Fayetteville beautiful!

What a day for Hiking with the Forester last Saturday! We set out to learn about the oak species of the area—but we ended up uncovering something truly extraordinary. Two hikers spotted two maple‑leaf oaks (Quercus acerifolia) near the top of the mountain. These trees are so rare that they naturally occur in only four places in the entire world, all right here in Arkansas. The find lined up perfectly with a general location described in a 2015 ecological assessment by botanist Theo Witsell.

A huge shout‑out to the 29 amazing hikers who joined us brought enthusiasm, sharp eyes, and great energy. And yes… the hike did end up being a bit longer than planned. Thanks for rolling with it like champs!

Next Adventure: Right Tree Right Location class!

This class introduces participants in Northwest Arkansas to the essential principles of planting the right tree in the right place. Attendees will learn how to assess site conditions such as soil type, available space, sun exposure, and infrastructure conflicts, and how those factors influence long term tree health. The course highlights regionally appropriate species, common planting mistakes, and practical strategies for creating resilient, sustainable landscapes that thrive in NWA’s climate. By the end, participants will be equipped to make informed decisions that support both healthy trees and healthy communities.
