As the day ends, I want to take a moment to reflect on the significance of Juneteenth—a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation’s history.

I was grateful for the opportunity to join my colleagues in reading the Mayor and City Council’s Juneteenth Proclamation and to help recognize the importance of this day within our community.

As we reflect on the progress that has been made, we are also reminded that the work continues. Here in Federal Way, we must remain committed to uplifting our Black community, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that every resident feels valued, supported, and included.

Happy Juneteenth.

Had a great time listening to King County Executive Girmay Zahilay state of the county address. It was powerful and I loved his message of a more connected king county. Always great to run into Fmr. FW Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councilmember Jeanne Burbidge, South King Fire Commissioner Caroline Vadino! Loved running into amazing elected officials and when I left, I felt incredibly inspired.
