While the kids are away supporting our neighbors at Big Sur the Adults got to mix it up with the Felton Business Association and the Race thru the Redwoods serving a pancake breakfast to near 500 participants and a Sasquatch! Thankful for the morning fog!

Zayante firefighters - day 6 on the Timber Incident in Las Padres NF. All well and engaged. Part of Santa Cruz County Strike team 2325C - including Scott’s Valley, Central Fire, City of Santa Cruz and Hayward - have occupied space on Division K protecting structures and improving containment lines near the Ventana Inn.

Zayante firefighters with units from Scott’s Valley, Central Fire, City of Santa Cruz and City of Hayward have been assigned to the Timber Incident as of 7pm Tuesday night. Strike Team 2325C - Be Safe !

TIMBER FIRE UPDATE

Please see the attached fact sheet for the latest information on the in Monterey County.

The fire is currently 2,989 acres and 5% contained, with approximately 924 personnel assigned. Firefighters remain actively engaged in structure protection in the Ventana area and along Grimes and Stoney Ridges as the fire continues to spread south toward Partington Road.

Aircraft, including the DC-10, were heavily utilized after the inversion lifted to support firefighters on the ground.

Highway 1 remains closed between Fernwood Resort and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Vista Point.

Currently the SLV is being impacted by drift smoke from the Timber Fire in Big Sur.

We do not have any active fires in our area at the time.

Saturday Siren testing today at 11 am. This is only a test of the legacy outdoor warning system. As installation drags on with the new sirens we have scheduled onsite coordination between the vendor and the County Radio shop this week to resolve technical issues. We have also installed new park lighting at Lompico Park on a timer at the request of the LCC.
Evacuation is no joke- be prepared, have a go bag and a plan. Most of all Be Decisive!

Welcome back! Strike Team 2330C and Zayante Engine 2437 from the Mines Incident in Del Puerto Canyon. Although a short deployment your mop up skills are essential for the control of the fire. Thank You to the engine companies from Scott’s Valley, Central Fire, Santa Cruz and Watsonville representing Santa Cruz on the line.

Zayante Firefighters assisted the Felton Fire District Wednesday evening landing a Life-flight helicopter at Henry Cowell State Park for a motorcycle accident victim.
