Combing through the vast archives of Zayante Fire we found some 35mm of one of the first pancake breakfasts in the new / current station (1990?) Who remembers when they were at Quail Hollow school? What year was your first pancake breakfast with Zayante Fire?

Did you know? This 1958 GMC American LaFrance Fire Engine was the first engine purchased brand new by Zayante Fire? With a 5 speed manual transmission, and steering brought to you by Armstrong (read no power steering), it tested many a member over the years. In service until the 90s, 2421 is now a proud heritage piece. We love to see her roll and think of the firefighters that came before us riding on the back step serving the same community we do now.

Did you know your donations to the Zayante Firefighters Association directly purchased these 2 vehicles? A 2011 GMC 2500 Pickup , and a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Command Unit. The 2011 GMC was then outfitted with a skid mounted pump, funded on a grant. This enables us to reach fires on small roads and tight spots. The 2020 Chevrolet enables us to replace an aging command unit that is used heavily. The Firefighters Association stands apart from the Fire District. Its mission is to support the Firefighters, and the department in protecting our community.

Every time you see “Funded in partnership with the Zayante Firefighters Association” know that your dollars contributed to the purchase.

Every pancake flipped, and every dollar in the boot counts. We have an incredibly supportive community and we are so proud to serve you.

There will be a test of the legacy siren today at 11 am. This is only a test. The new sirens in Lompico and Upper Zayante are not operational at this time as the vendor resolves connectivity issues.
In cooperation with the Sheriff’s Office and Cal Fire we have completed two functional evacuation exercises in Lompico providing key take always for better understanding the time needed to evacuate the community; learned lessons to create feedback loops in the Cruz Aware alert process, exercise unified command strategies to manage an incident and increase awareness for local responders.

Following the exercise, we would like to extend our gratitude to everyone for their patience and cooperation. The community's response to the CruzAware notification enabled our team to assess the effectiveness of the feedback loop within the software platform, ultimately enhancing incident management and resource allocation. We appreciate the role players who tested the deputies' resource management skills. Despite the inclement weather, valuable training opportunities like today refine our planning process, and the lessons learned are integrated into other community planning tools. Special recognition goes to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office and Cal Fire for their dedication to serving our community. This preparedness exercise focused on evacuation procedures, communications and benchmarking time phased operations.

🚨 Training Exercise Reminder– San Lorenzo Valley 🚨

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting its second day of evacuation scenario training in the Lompico corridor of the San Lorenzo Valley.

This training will involve dozens of deputies responding to simulated evacuation situations. The goal is to enhance our preparedness and ensure we are ready to respond effectively during real emergencies.

📅 Training Dates & Times:
• May 13th | 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• May 28th | 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

👮‍♂️ What to Expect:
Residents in the area should expect to see a significant increase in marked Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles and personnel during these times.

⚠️ Important:
This is only a training exercise. There is no active emergency.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to keep our community safe and prepared.
