đźš’ GRANT COUNTY REHAB TEAM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED đźš’

HELP SUPPORT THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO PROTECT GRANT COUNTY

When firefighters battle a major structure fire, grass fire, or long-duration emergency, the work is physically exhausting. Heavy gear, intense heat, smoke exposure, dehydration, and fatigue can quickly take a toll — and that’s where the Firefighter Rehab Team comes in.

Grant County Emergency Management is currently seeking community volunteers interested in helping with Firefighter Rehabilitation (REHAB) as part of the Grant County Emergency Management Volunteer Auxilliary.

The Rehab Team responds to major incidents throughout Grant County to help firefighters and emergency responders safely rest, recover, rehydrate, and return to duty. These volunteers play a critical behind-the-scenes role that directly supports firefighter safety and operational effectiveness.

🔥 WHAT DOES THE REHAB TEAM DO?

Volunteers may assist with:
• Setting up rehab shelters, tents, tables, heaters, fans, and chairs
• Providing cold water, sports drinks, snacks, and meals during long incidents
• Helping firefighters cool down or warm up depending on weather conditions
• Supporting our firefighter carcinogen-reduction program by distributing towels and washcloths so firefighters can clean soot and contaminants from their skin
• Assisting EMS crews with non-medical support tasks
• Tracking firefighter rotation and accountability
• Refilling SCBA air bottles (for those comfortable and trained to do so)

🚨 WHO SHOULD JOIN?

This opportunity is ideal for people who:
• Want to support firefighters and first responders
• Enjoy helping during emergencies and community events
• Prefer a support/logistics role rather than direct emergency response
• Are dependable, and willing to learn
• Want to be part of a structured emergency management team serving Grant County

No firefighting experience is required. Training and equipment will be provided.

The Rehab Team is only one part of the broader Grant County Emergency Management Volunteer Auxiliary. Additional opportunities will also exist in areas such as:
• Disaster damage assessment
• Shelter and survivor support
• Emergency Operations Center support
• Logistics and supply operations
• Drone operations
• Communications support
• Vehicle and equipment maintenance

Today is international firefighters day and we thank the men and women that dedicate so much time and effort into serving our community as well as all others doing the same around the world!

May 4 was chosen as the date to celebate International Firefighter' Day as it is also the Feast Day of St Florian, the Patron Saint of Firefighters.

A Roman officer known for his courage and leadership, St Florian is remembered for his role in organising firefighting brigades and for standing firm in the face of danger.

His legacy lives on in firefighters around the world today.

On this day, we honour not only tradition—but the enduring spirit of service and protection. We celebrate and thank brave firefighters around the world who risk their lives to protect our communities. Your courage, commitment, and dedication never go unnoticed. Stay safe, and know that you are deeply appreciated.

Congratulations to firefighters Anthony Allen and Ryan Koeller on passing their Entry-level Firefighter course this morning.

Entry-level Firefighter is a 60 hour course covering the basic skills of all fireground operations. Successful completion brings them to the state required level of training to work in an IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health) environment.

Great work gentlemen and we look forward to watching your fire careers continue to grow!

Fennimore Fire and Fennimore Rescue Squad will be conducting a mock car accident at the high-school this afternoon. There is no actual emergency.

Fire Danger remains VERY HIGH today for Grant and surrounding counties. 🔥 What “Very High” Fire Danger Means:

Fires can start easily and spread rapidly.
Fine fuels like grass, leaves, and brush ignite quickly—even from small sparks.
Wind can cause fires to grow out of control in minutes.

ALL BURNING IN THE DNR FIRE PROTECTION AREA (most areas North of Highway 18 + Wyalusing Township) IS PROHIBITED. Residents in the remainder of Grant County are strongly encouraged to refrain from any outdoor burning, including burn barrels.

For a current list of burn restrictions updated daily (around 9am), please visit the WI DNR Burning Restriction page at https://apps.dnr.wi.gov/wisburn/ #/BurnRestrictions

Fire Danger upgraded to VERY HIGH today for Grant and surrounding counties due to a combination of wind, low relative humidity and dry fuels.

Wisconsin law provides that a person responsible for causing a wildfire is responsible for all suppression costs and also liable to landowners for damages caused by that fire--in some cases liable for double the damages caused.

Grant County will conduct warning siren testing in all municipalities on Monday. In some areas, this will consist of a brief “growl” test, where the siren is activated and then quickly silenced. In other communities, the tests will run for a full siren cycle.

These tests are part of the transition to our new countywide radio system and are being conducted to confirm that all equipment is operating reliably and as designed.

These tests are NOT a part of Wisconsin's statewide tornado drill, which will take place on Thursday, April 16th (stay tuned for more outreach on that!)

Tonight we had our first fire structure call of the year. Thankfully no one was inside, and no injuries reported from responding personnel or bystanders. Incident Command requested Lancaster Fire Department for RIT and Montfort Fire Department for a tender.

RIT stands for Rapid Intervention Team. RIT consists of a 2-4 person crew on scene ready to be deployed incase of disoriented, trapped or injured personnel. It's easy to get disoriented in any sort of structure, but a garage has minimal windows and doors of egress and typically higher hazardous materials inside. Thus, having RIT on standby even for a garage fire can be crucial.

Here are some photos from the scene.

Thank you to all who responded.

Not very often you see a bunch of grown men and women playing dodgeball! As part of our winter training schedule we do a yearly game of dodgeball in full turn out gear to 1 test our air consumption and 2 monitor our vitals for our working heart rate and blood pressure. At any working incident heart rate can play a key factor in the safety of our firefighters. By having this information documented the active EMS can better know when individuals are reaching his or her working limits to keep them safe.

Big thank you to all who participated and Fennimore Rescue Squad for standing by to collect data as well as bring balls back after being lost under the trucks!

If this and other activities you see us post seem interesting to you feel free to reach out on our Facebook or any Fire Department member for information to join.

Have a safe and merry Christmas from all of us at Fennimore Fire!
