Why We Call It the Free Choice Market

At Center of Hope, our pantry isn’t just shelves of food, it’s a place of dignity and respect.

That’s why we call it the Free Choice Market. Families don’t receive a pre-packed box. Instead, they choose the groceries that best fit their needs, just like at a regular store.

- Parents can pick the foods their kids will actually eat.
- People with health concerns can select items that meet their dietary needs.
- Everyone has the dignity of making choices for themselves.

It’s about more than food, it’s about restoring independence, confidence, and hope.

Thank you to the volunteers and donors who make the Free Choice Market possible for over 100 families each week.

Every day, families walk through our doors looking for help, and every day, your generosity makes it possible for us to meet those needs.

- A donation means food on the table.
- It means diapers and formula for a new mom.
- It means safe housing for women and children in crisis.

When you give, you’re not just donating, you’re changing lives.

Right here in our community, people walk through our doors facing crisis situations with no clear way forward. 10401 Fenton Road is more than an address. It's dignity, help, and friends who are there when things get hard.

If you or someone you know needs help, or if you want to be part of the solution, you know where to find us.
When crisis hits, hope has an address.

There are days when life feels heavy. Days when you wonder if anyone notices, if your efforts matter, or if your mistakes have somehow defined you.

But God's Word tells a different story:

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 8:38–39

No failure is too great. No struggle is too deep. No fear is too strong.

God's love is not based on your performance. It doesn't disappear when you stumble, and it doesn't weaken when life gets hard. His love remains constant, faithful, and secure.

Today, remember this: you are seen, you are valued, and you are deeply loved by the One who created you.

A bag of groceries matters.
A pack of diapers matters.

But sometimes the most important thing we can offer is a relationship.

At Center of Hope, we don't just meet immediate needs. We connect people to mentors, classes, support groups, resources, and a community that cares.

Because hope grows when people know they don't have to face life alone.

Summer has a way of making life look easier. The sun stays out longer, the kids are outside playing, gardens are growing, and calendars fill up with vacations, cookouts, and community events.

But struggles don't disappear just because the weather gets nicer. Bills still arrive. Relationships still need work. Worries still linger. Some people feel more alone in a crowd than they do in the middle of winter.

Yet God's faithfulness remains the same in every season.

A kind conversation. A shared meal. A helping hand. A moment of laughter. Small reminders that hope is never as far away as it sometimes feels.

"The joy of the Lord is your strength." - Nehemiah 8:10

So enjoy the sunshine, but don't forget where true strength comes from. God's joy isn't dependent on the weather, your circumstances, or how things are going this week. It remains steady, and so does His love for you.

Some people preach sermons.
Some quietly sort baby clothes for three hours on a Tuesday morning.

Center of Hope runs because ordinary people keep showing up.
And honestly, that’s a pretty incredible thing to witness.

There’s a moment that happens here almost every week.
Someone walks through the doors embarrassed to ask for help.
You can see it in the way they apologize before they’ve even said what they need.

“Sorry…”

“ I hate to ask…”

“Other people probably need this more than me…”

And almost every time, their story sounds different, but the feeling underneath it is the same.
People aren’t looking for handouts as much as they’re looking for footing again.

A layoff.
A medical issue.
A rent increase.
A divorce.
A broken car.
An unexpected custody situation.
One hard season that turned into three.

Most people are closer to needing help than they realize.
That’s why places like the Center of Hope exist.
Not because people are weak.
Because life can hit hard.
