Lake Region Takes Root

Lake Region Takes Root Be a part of a community health revolution! Lake Region Healthcare, with other community partners, w Gardening. Growing. Giving.

To achieve optimal health, people in our region need access to affordable, fresh produce. This project is developing as a means of achieving this important element of contributing to a healthier community. Our 1.5 acre community garden, located on the west edge of Fergus Falls at 260 Kennedy Park Circle, is equally about education. This facility is a place where people of all ages can learn the va

lue of foods, importance of nutrient-dense foods, and experience a variety of growing methods aimed at inspiring people to grow their own foods. Foods grown in the garden will be used to serve WIC clients of Otter Tail County; any overage of foods will be donated to the Fergus Falls Community Food Shelf. For more information or to volunteer, please call Jason at (218) 736-8651

We're excited to partner on this project to encourage Growing an Extra Row to share fresh produce with our food shelves!

As you plan your garden this spring, consider planting a little extra.

One extra row can help provide fresh, healthy food for local families later this summer.

Our goal is simple—grow a little extra and donate it directly to a local food shelf.

We are grateful for great partners Like AgCountry! We’re thankful for AgCountry Farm Credit Services, a long‑time partner of Lake Region Takes Root who continues to show up for our mission in a big way. Their local team typically volunteers twice each season, and this week they came through for us again. 15 AgCountry employees volunteered for 2 hours in our new greenhouse helping to begin setup of our tomato & pepper hydroponic operation, cut 200 pounds of seed potatoes ready for planting, and transplant nearly 1,000 tomato and pepper plants.

The generosity didn’t stop there. Because more than 11 employees volunteered over an hour with us, AgCountry announced an additional $3,000 donation to Lake Region Takes Root. We are incredibly appreciative of their continued commitment and service!

Want to make an impact like this? If you or a group you belong to would like to volunteer with Lake Region Takes Root, reach out to [email protected]. Together, we’re growing more than food—we’re growing community.

The Battle Lake Food Shelf is one of the recipients of food grown in the Lake Region Takes Root garden. Volunteers from the food shelf pick up nutrient-dense and locally grown food every week during the growing season to distribute to those in need. Will you help us expand our impact? Throw Back Thursday at the Garden! This photo was taken in 2013 at Lake Region Takes Root. Do you know the history of how the garden started (with donated land!)? We've compiled a six part series on the garden's beginning and progress. Check it out at www.lrhc.org/LRTR. Amazing what a simple vision and a lot of collaboration can accomplish! 🫑🥕🥦🥬🥒🧅🥔🍅

Faithful volunteers like Kathy make the garden possible. Working together our volunteers grow in their gardening knowledge and their social circles, all while helping to grow healthy produce that's donated to local food shelves. No experience necessary!
