Commissioner Sean Sullivan and I attended the Fergus Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Ignite Community Leadership graduation celebration.

Watching this year’s class reminded me a lot of my time in the Blandin leadership program — the camaraderie that forms, the conversations that challenge your perspective, and the exposure to people from across the community that you may not otherwise meet in your day-to-day life.

Programs like Ignite continue to strengthen Fergus Falls by bringing together individuals from different industries, backgrounds, and experiences who all care deeply about the future of our community.

Congratulations to this year’s graduates, and thank you to the Chamber and everyone involved for investing in leadership development here in Fergus Falls.

There’s something special about watching a hometown talent return home.

Tonight, I encourage our community to gather at the Kirkbride to celebrate Fergus Falls’ own Chris Tungseth. What started as a local dream has become a journey our entire city has rallied behind, and this concert is a chance for us to show that support in person.

Bring your friends, bring your family, and help us fill one of our city’s most iconic spaces with hometown pride, music, and community spirit.

Today, we officially unveiled Fergus Falls’ new city sign — proudly recognizing our community of 14,116 residents and celebrating something else that has brought this town together in a big way:

Fergus Falls, Minnesota — Home of American Idol contestant Chris Tungseth.

From local stages to national television, Chris has represented our community with talent, humility, and heart. No matter where this journey takes him next, Fergus Falls will always be proud to call him one of our own.

Thank you to everyone who came out today to celebrate this exciting addition to our city entrance and support a hometown story that has united our community in such a positive way.

Grateful for an evening spent celebrating the people who quietly keep our community strong.

Tonight at the The Salvation Army Volunteer Appreciation Dinner here in Fergus Falls, I had the honor of attending not only as Mayor, but also as a proud board member.

I was reminded that the true foundation of our city isn’t just our buildings or businesses—it’s our people.

The volunteers recognized tonight give their time, energy, and compassion without expectation. Whether it’s supporting families in need, organizing programs, or simply showing up when it matters most, their impact reaches further than they may ever realize.

Fergus Falls is better because of you. Thank you for your service, your generosity, and your commitment to lifting others up.

While tonight didn't go the way we had hoped, we couldn't be prouder of Chris and how he represented himself and our community on the big stage. Unfortunately, this means the parade and concert events on May 6th will not take place as planned. We will be working directly with Chris to plan an amazing homecoming event that features a parade and even bigger concert with Chris in the coming days. Fergus Falls showed up. We rallied, we voted, and we stood behind one of our own in a way that speaks volumes about this community.

Chris made a splash this morning… literally.

Our Chris Tungseth American Idol Cutout stopped by the splash pad to test things out ahead of the season—and while the water might not be on just yet, the excitement definitely is.

We’re counting down the days (and degrees) until warmer weather officially arrives and the splash pad opens up for another great summer in Fergus Falls. ☀️💦

Until then, we’ll just say Chris is ready when we are.
