When summer storms strike Otter Tail County your photos and reports matter.
After a storm passes, take photos of any damage to your home, business, or community infrastructure and submit them using the Otter Tail County Severe Weather and Disaster Damage Self-Report Form.

Your pictures and reports help provide local communities and county, state, and federal authorities better understand where and how locations were impacted by significant storms and major disasters. Submitted reports will also help expedite public and individual assistance following major disasters.

Tonight’s training focused on ground ladder operations 🚒🪜

Ladder work is a critical part of the fire service — from rescue operations to gaining access and ventilation. Rain or shine, we train to be ready, and tonight’s rain didn’t slow us down 🌧️

More than fires! Recently, our new firefighter training involved responding to hazardous material incidents.

The training involved learning to use reference material, personal protective equipment, product control techniques, and
conducting a rescue from a hazardous area.

We have had several days this Spring of critical fire weather in our area.

Fire Crews responded to 2 fires in recent days during such weather. Both incidents were examples of how quickly fires spread in these conditions.

A few tips:
- No open burning, including camp fires within the City limits, during Red Flag Warnings.
- Avoid throwing cigarette butts out your car window.
- Connect trailer chains to avoid sparks.
- Discard smoking material in appropriate containers, ex. Metal can filled with water or sand.
- Only burn clean dry firewood in your recreational campfire.
