This morning's Nature Walk with the Goat Herd was a wonderful mix of visitors and locals. We welcomed one family from Jacksonville and another local family who had relatives visiting from Virginia.

Along the way, guests learned about the farm animals, fed plenty of snacks, and spent time getting to know the personalities of our goat herd. The swings beneath the oak trees were a favorite stop, but the hammocks may have stolen the show. Anyone relaxing in a hammock with animal crackers quickly became the most popular person on the farm, surrounded by a very enthusiastic group of goats hoping to share the treats!

🌾 A Simple Upgrade That Makes a Big Difference 🌾

Jay built a new hay feeder, and I absolutely love it.

It holds enough hay to feed our 20 goats, 2 donkeys, and mini mule for more than a week. Keeping the hay contained means less waste, less time spent refilling feeders, and lower feed costs.

When you care for a herd this size, reducing waste isn't just convenient, it saves money and keeps more hay where it belongs... in the animals instead of on the ground. 🐐🫏

Laughter echoing through the pines, goats weaving between hammocks, and a bride tribe making memories together 🐐✨

This private bachelorette Nature Walk with the herd was full of sweet moments and nonstop laughs. Billy-Ray and Skywalker soaked up the attention and quickly became the stars of the morning. They fed snacks to the goats and donkeys, explored the trails, took turns on the tire swing, and stretched out in the hammocks beneath the pines.

Of course, the goats noticed the animal crackers immediately… and several guests discovered that relaxing in a hammock becomes a little more exciting when surrounded by determined snack inspectors 😄

We loved hosting this fun group and being a small part of such a special celebration 🤍

Meet Ringo, our resident Eastern Rat Snake. 🐍

Ringo lives out in the barn and stretches to about 7 feet long. Before many of our nature walks, I’ll show guests one of his shed snake skins. It’s the perfect reminder that the farm is shared with all kinds of native wildlife. 🌿

Eastern Rat Snakes are non-venomous and incredibly beneficial to have around. They help control rodent populations naturally, protecting feed and barns without chemicals or traps. They’re shy, excellent climbers, and usually want nothing to do with people.

Around here, Ringo is part of the farm crew.

Spotted on the farm for the very first time today… Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. 🦆

These beautiful ducks are easy to recognize with their long pink legs, chestnut coloring, black belly, and bright red-orange bill. Unlike most ducks, they often perch in trees and nest in hollow cavities. And yes… they really do whistle instead of quack.

Once mostly found in Texas, Mexico, and Central America, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks have steadily expanded into Florida over the years. They feed on seeds, grasses, aquatic plants, and insects, playing an important role in wetland ecosystems.

The farm keeps introducing us to new wild neighbors. 🌿

Thursday evening’s private Sunset Goat Yoga with residents from Osprey Village was such a lovely evening on the farm. 🌅🐐

After goat yoga, their event director Katie treated the group to wine and charcuterie as everyone relaxed and enjoyed the sunset together. Goats, laughter, good food, and golden skies… a beautiful way to spend the evening.

Special thanks to Angela Brown, Myra, and Rae for assisting in my absence and helping make the evening so welcoming for our guests. 🤍
