FBOR is here with an important reminder:
๐ŸšจStay away from jetties๐Ÿšจ

We understand how tempting it is to venture across these rocks. However, jetties are not designed for recreational activities and pose several dangers.

โš ๏ธAt low tide, the rocks may seem like a safe place to explore, but that can quickly change as the tide comes in. This often leaves people stranded on the rocks as the tide covers the way back to shore.

๐ŸŒŠIn addition, waves can be irregular and unpredictable, causing individuals to be pushed into sharp, barnacle-covered rocks and suffer serious injuries.

โ—Thinking about swimming near a jetty? Often, permanent rip currents form next to jetties due to the constant undulations of the ocean floor and can sweep swimmers out to sea or into sharp rocks.

Stay safe, swim near a lifeguard, and stay away from jetties โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ Fernandina Beach Ocean Rescue is here to celebrate ๐Ÿ–๏ธ National Beach Safety Week from May 18th to 25th.

Our first safety tip for National Beach Safety Week is ๐Ÿ›Ÿ swim near a lifeguard ๐Ÿ›Ÿ.

๐ŸŒŠ Our lifeguards are not only trained to respond to rescues and medical emergencies but also work tirelessly to prevent them long before they happen. This means warning visitors about potential hazards like rip currents and high surf.

๐ŸšจRemember, we are here for YOU! Your safety is our top priority. So the next time you visit the beach stay safe and swim near a lifeguard. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

As the season starts to ramp up, so will our beach staffing. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ On weekends, beginning April 4th, our lifeguards will be at Main Beach, Seaside Park, and Petersโ€™ Point from 10:30am to 5:00pm. These guards are well-equipped to perform water rescues, first aid, and educate the public on beach safety. ๐ŸŒŠ Donโ€™t hesitate to stop by any of our staffed towers or emergency vehicles if you have any questions.

Last week we officially wrapped up our summer 2025 Junior Lifeguard Program!๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‘Š

We had the incredible opportunity to train 76 fantastic kids in lifesaving skills, first aid, ocean safety, teamwork, and more. Weโ€™re so proud of their hard work and growth in the past few weeks.

Huge thanks to all the parents for sharing your kids with us, and to our chiefs and staff for the leadership and support that make this program possible each year. Until next summer! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ

Weโ€™re excited to share that the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 14-1 out of Fernandina Beach is soft launching a new lifejacket loaner program at Main Beach!

Each bright yellow life jacket is clearly stenciled with CGAUX and Loaner so theyโ€™re easy to spot. The kiosk is stocked with 15 life jackets:
โœ… 3 for children under 50 lbs
โœ… 10 for youth 50โ€“90 lbs
โœ… 2 for over 90 lbs

Next week, the Auxiliary will begin building two more kiosks to expand this lifesaving program to other beach access points.

Thank you, Flotilla 14-1, for helping keep our community safe! ๐Ÿ’›
