Micah's Place

Micah's Place We envision a community where safe, healthy, equitable relationships and families thrive. Our aspiration is to overcome the impact of dv, one life at a time.

Micah's Place provides safety and support for individuals who have experienced domestic abuse and to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence, and impact. Micah’s Place supports and empowers adults and their children affected by domestic abuse while striving to prevent and end the cycle of abuse through education and advocacy. Need help? Victim blaming is defined as someone saying, implying, or treating a person who has experienced harmful or abusive behaviour (such as a survivor of domestic violence) like it was a result of something they did or said, instead of placing the responsibility where it belongs: on the person who harmed them.

Why is it bad?
Victim blaming not only discourages survivors from coming forward for fear they’ll be blamed, it also actively shifts focus away from holding the person doing harm accountable.

Feeling lost in your relationship?

What should you do if you no longer feel like yourself, or if this relationship has made you feel like you don't even know who you are anymore?

First, breathe, take some time for yourself. Remember what used to make you happy, and go do it.
Spend some time with those who are most important to you. Reconnect with family and friends.

Work on the things that are important to you and seek out things you haven't tried before.

If you feel the relationship shouldn't continue, make sure to end the relationship safely. Think about where you will be when you have that conversation, and if you would want to continue a friendship with the person after or not.

Our advocates are always here to assist you 24/7 via call or text at our hotline 904-225-9979.

Did you know that August includes National Financial Awareness Day? FLDVC is offering a new training for advocates, community members, and business owners titled “Cha-ching! The Financial Cost of Domestic Violence” on August 26th, 10a-11:30a.

This training explores the complex and often overlooked issue of domestic violence affecting our economy. Participants will begin by defining domestic violence, the unique monetary challenges faced by victims and society, including how abusers use money to hurt their partners, financial costs, and how money keeps survivors in abusive relationships. We will also discuss how domestic violence affects businesses, their bottom line, and what they can do to help.

Is your relationship healthy? Here's a quick check-in.

Do you respect one anothers qualities, experiences, and opinions as valid?

Do you communicate clearly, openly, and respectfully, even when you disagree? Are you able to agree to disagree and compromise when your opinions clash?

Do you spend time apart? Healthy relationships give space for you both to enjoy your hobbies seperately, and hang out with your friends independently.

We talk a lot about the importance of boundaries here at Micah's Place, but maybe you aren't sure what that looks like. We are here to help.

A boundary is by definition a line thatprotects the integrity of an individual or group or that helps the person or group set realistic limits on participation in a relationship or activity.

Which often looks like setting boundaries for the way we will tolerate being talked too, touched, how our time will be spent, and more.
