A day of culture, community, and way too many tamales! 🫔✨

Ms Murphy took the Spanish crew from Ferndale Middle School to the heart of Mexicantown to see the traditions behind the food. From the incredible stash at Tamaleria Nuevo Leon to the vibrant colors and alebrijes at Taqueria Mi Pueblo, it was an unforgettable experience. Nothing beats learning through experience (and a lot of tacos!). 🇲🇽❤️

If you see a badge and a cowboy hat roaming the halls of Ferndale Middle School, don’t turn and run; grab a book!

We are excited to highlight Tia Swanson, a teacher who has been part of our district for three years and a Ferndale parent for 14 years. Around this time of year, she’s better known by her legendary alter ego: The Reading Sheriff.

The Reading Sheriff tradition began 12 years ago when Tia began patrolling the halls to catch students in the act of reading. Whether she is in our new library, the classrooms or the cafeteria, the Sheriff is always on the lookout for students making time for books.

Thank you, Tia, for bringing so much energy, fun, and passion for literacy to our schools. We are so lucky to have you in the Ferndale family!

Ready for a summer of discovery? 🚀 Registration is now OPEN for the Ferndale Public Schools Summer Discovery 2026 program! ☀️

Open to all current 5th–8th graders, this free program offers hands-on tracks in STEM & Robotics, Creative Arts, Culinary Arts, and Open Gym, Outdoor Exploration. It’s the perfect way to learn new skills, make friends, and have a blast this summer.

📅 Dates: June 22 – July 23 (Mon–Thu)
⏰ Time: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
📍 Location: Ferndale Middle School
💰 Cost: FREE for Ferndale students (Breakfast, lunch, and transportation included!)

From sketchbooks to sliders 🎨🍔🌮

Our art students took creativity on the road on Friday—using everyday moments as inspiration while exploring still life portraits through food, color, texture, and composition. From the bold colors at Taco Bell to the details and presentation at Savvy Sliders, students practiced seeing art in the ordinary—and turning it into something extraordinary.

Hard hats on, minds open 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️✨

Today some of our students got a hands-on look at the world of construction—exploring careers, learning how projects come to life, and seeing teamwork, skill, and creativity in action. Experiences like this help build more than knowledge… they build futures for our students.

FMS PLTW Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics took a deep dive today into where the blueprint meets the bot. From the "living roof" (talk about sustainable design!) to the high-speed precision of the assembly robots, our students saw exactly how the gears of the Motor City turn at scale. Move over, Henry—the next generation of designers and engineers has officially entered the plant! 🚙💨
