Putting The Kids In Position To Grow Confidence In Their Voice...Under Pressure

That is what Life On Purpose Detroit is all about.

The impact has far exceeded a 6 week Summer Program.

The impact shows up in the kids that never wanted to work, and are now working their dream jobs. Understanding their value for the first time.

It is in as he continues to perform Christian rap on stages.

It is in the demand for us to, for the first time ever, continue working with the kids in the fall.

And we are just getting started baby... Just wait to see what is coming next!

This summer we were able to bring it all to life...

We had the nature, the tech, and we eye making the impact on the kids.

Along the way the kids were coming up with phenomenal ideas, and it became obvious...

We needed to bring in experts to mentor the kids.

Who could imagine we could've found mentors that also specializes in inner confidence development.

But when it is meant to be it is meant to be!

❤️ Life on Purpose Fam, we need your love around Dr. Maxine Hankins Cain right now.

Dr. Maxine Hankins/Cain Maxine Hankins Cain has spent so much of her life pouring into others, into our students, our families, our team, and this entire community. She is truly the soul of Life on Purpose, and right now, our focus has been completely on surrounding her with the same love, strength, and encouragement she has given all of us.

She recently is in the hospital, but anyone who knows Dr. Cain knows she is a fighter. She believes deeply in E + R = O (Event + Response = Outcome), and she is showing us exactly what that looks like. Every day, she amazes everyone around her with her strength, her tenacity, and her refusal to give up. She is fighting, she is pushing, and she is going to keep elevating.

Now we are asking our village to do what Dr. Cain has always done for us: pour in.

Please send her a prayer, a memory, a few words of wisdom, a note of encouragement, something funny, something loving, anything she can read and feel the energy behind it.

We want every bit of love we can gather to surround her and make her stronger minute by minute.

Dr. Cain, you have carried so many people through so much.

This is what happens when you don’t just discover a young person’s talent. You open a door for them to use it!

Life On Purpose Detroit is so much more than a six week summer work program.
It’s about discovering the talents and superpowers already inside these young people, surrounding them with mentors and experts who can help develop those gifts, and then creating real opportunities for them to put those skills to work.

For LJ, one of those superpowers is her voice.

Last week, LJ stepped into a professional studio and recorded paid voiceover work that was featured as narration for the Hartland Art Walk over the weekend.

-Find the gift.
-Develop the gift.
-Surround it with the right people and resources.
-Then open doors for these young people to use it in the real world.

The summer program may end, bu the purpose doesn’t.
This is what investing in young people looks like!

What happens when your dreams are big enough to scare you?

Episode 2 of Voices in the Wild is now posted on YouTube, and put@anthony_hicks_ across from , Community Engagement Coordinator at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and one of the people who helped bring the partnership with Life On Purpose Detroit to life.

Lisa shares her own journey of continuing to push herself, taking chances, breaking down barriers, and creating opportunities for young people to experience a place that belongs to all of us.

But one of our favorite moments comes when Anthony tells Lisa directly that she helped him find his voice.

That’s what this entire experience is about.

Young people gaining confidence. Finding their voice. Being exposed to new possibilities. And being surrounded by adults who see what they can become and challenge them to give their best.

Lisa said it perfectly:

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.”
