Two important, time-sensitive items mentioned at last night's club meeting:

We need as many club members in good standing (i.e., members for at least six weeks) as possible to attend our June meeting! In addition to holding our annual election of officers (members residing in Ferndale or Pleasant Ridge are eligible to run), we have scheduled a vote to endorse Victoria King and Elisabeth Dery in their respective judicial races. Please mark your calendar for 7:00 on June 25! (The location is TBD; stay tuned for more details.)

Anyone interested in running as a write-in candidate for a precinct delegate position in Ferndale or Pleasant Ridge may complete a Declaration of Intent form; get it notarized; and deliver it to the County Clerk office in Pontiac NO LATER THAN 4:00 PM on July 30.
(Precinct delegates will be elected in the August 4 primary.) Here is the link to the Declaration of Intent form, including instructions:

Good morning, fellow Democrats! Our Bar Night will take place on May 14 inside Soho, located at 205 W. 9 Mile. Feel free to bring your own food; beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are available for purchase onsite. Join us at 7:00 PM for casual conversation!

Our official club meeting is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 PM on May 28 inside 215W (address is 215 W. 9 Mile Road, next door to Soho). Free pizza will be provided by your club leadership; beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are available for purchase onsite. Some logistics for attending this meeting:

1. Please enter through the door on the back patio only. We will put a sign on the door that is something to the effect of "Ferndale Dems Meeting: Enter Here." If you are at the front of the building, you can walk through Soho to get to the back patio.

2. The most convenient parking will be along West Troy Street, either in one of the surface lots or in the DOT garage.

3. 215W is a single-level venue, so no stairs or elevator to navigate.

Our scheduled guest speakers for the May 28 meeting are John Paul Torres (candidate for the 11th Congressional District) and Deanne Austin (candidate for Michigan's 8th House District). Elected officials serving citizens of Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge, as well as additional candidates for positions serving our two cities, are also welcome to speak briefly later in the meeting.

Deanne Austin is the latest candidate running to serve in Michigan's 8th House District, which includes Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge. She is scheduled to speak at our May 28 club meeting. (We are currently between physical venues; if we have not secured a space by May 28, the meeting will take place entirely on Zoom.)

Last night's totally Zoom meeting (the first one in several years) had a small but attentive turnout of attendees. Amanda Treppa shared with me after the meeting some additional, clarifying information regarding a question I had raised about AI data centers; I will include that information in the comments below.

Our second speaker, Michelle Murphy, emailed me a copy of her campaign flyer which lists the things she is fighting for. I will include the text from that flyer in the comments section as well.
