Sardis Raptor Center

Sardis Raptor Center Sardis Raptor Center is dedicated to helping rescue, rehabilitate, and release some of our most amazing wild birds: raptors. BOX 484 CUSTER WA 98240.

In our endeavor to aid in conservation of these majestic animals, we are also offer educational programs to the community. Sardis Raptor Center was founded in 1989 as a nonprofit organization by it's present director, Sharon Wolters. It operated as a rehabilitation center for all species until 1995 when it began to specialize in birds of prey. Thousands of hawks, owls, falcons, and eagles have bee

n treated and released, soaring to freedom as a result of Sardis' efforts. Presently, Sardis specializes in the rehabilitation of endangered or threatened species, including eagles, while continuing to provide emergency trauma care for all other species of raptors. A continuing primary goal of Sardis is to release fully rehabilitated animals back into the wild. To help preserve our raptor populations, Sardis has been instrumental in providing education to the community. The educational program, "Hunters of the Sky," is a fun, educational and unique program that has become very high in demand. This program provides viewers with the rare opportunity to see a variety of birds up close while learning about their habitats, their roles in the environment, and much more. Since it's inception, it has continuously gained popularity all over the state in fairs, private and public schools systems, colleges, and among other groups wishing to learn about raptors. The center's educational program is the permanent home to many different species of hawks, owls, and eagles. These are birds whose injuries prevent their release. They are ambassadors for their wild neighbors. They help educate children and adults throughout Washington State. We are a non-profit organization and depend on donations from the community to keep going. if you would like to donate please send a check to: P.O. Check can be made to Sardis Raptor Center.

Sardis Temporarily Closed to the Public:
Due to recent federal legislation and poor planning by the USDA, we are forced to cease public engagement until the USDA is able to process a new licensing requirement for avian exhibition. Without any notice, programs with more than 8 birds are now required to apply for special licensing despite having been previously permitted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The USDA's rollout and implementation of this was done hastily and without any proper planning. During this time, we are not permitted to provide onsite tours or resume our public outreach until the USDA has enough resources to process their immense backlog of applications. We will continue to provide the best level of care to our in-house patients. We thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through these troubling times and will let all of you know as soon as we are able to resume our usual operations

ANNOUNCEMENT: It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that we are not accepting new patients right now. We have always prided ourselves on providing the best possible care to our avian inpatients, however due to challenges surrounding the recent Avain Influenza outbreak we feel that we cannot provide the needed level of care to injured raptors. We are working diligently to build our resources but until that time we CANNOT accept new patients.

If you have found a sick or injured bird, please contact Wildlife Rescue at 360-966-8845.

We WILL continue to care for our resident birds and educational ambassadors in order to continue our mission toward education. We will continue our educational programs and provide tours by appointment ONLY.
To schedule programs and tours please call our direct line at: 360-366-3863.

As always, we appreciate your continued support, and will post updates as things develop.

We are experiencing technical difficulties with our hospital phone line. We are working hard to fix the issue and will let you know when we fix the phone line. In the mean time, if you encounter an injured raptor or need information please contact Wildlife Rescue at 360-966-8845. We are so grateful to the community for the support in this difficult time. The numbers of Avian Influenza are going down in Washington State, so we hope to be able open to the public and take in patients again in the near future. Please check back here often for updates.

CLOSED.
Due to increased concern regarding the current High Pathogenic Avian Influeza outbreak, we can no longer accept patients at this time.

Avian Influeza is a highly contagious and extremely deadly virus that effects all birds, including raptors. We are devastated that it has come to this. It is our mission to rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphan wildlife, but we also have an obligation to protect our current patients and our resident ambassadors the best we can.

We are working hard to come up with alternatives and solutions to this issue and will keep you posted as to when we can open our doors again. Thank you for your continued support and patience through this frightening time.

CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Due to the recent outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influeza, we will be closed to the public until further notice. Avian influenza is an extremely contagious virus that can spread rapidly amongst all bird species and is extremely deadly. While disease in humans is extremely rare, we can be "silent" carriers for the virus and inadvertently spread it to birds. As such, we are minimizing the risk to our avian patients and ambassadors.

We WILL continue to take in rescued raptors. If you find any injured or orphaned raptors please contact our hospital at 360-366-3863 BEFORE coming out to the center.

We are extremely honored to be of service to the community and as soon as this outbreak is undercontrol we will look forward to welcoming you all back to the center. Thank you for your understanding.

Avian influenza (bird flu) is a disease caused by infection with avian (bird) influenza (flu) Type A viruses. These viruses occur naturally in wild aquatic birds, but can also infect poultry (such as chickens, turkeys, pheasants, quail, domestic ducks, geese and guinea fowl) and other species. On ra...
