Today, May 4th, is International Firefighters Day, and Ferndale Fire Department joins the global community in recognizing the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to fire safety and emergency rescue.

This day is especially meaningful as it falls on the feast day of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters. It’s a time for us to reflect on the commitment it takes to wear the badge and the resilience required to serve our neighbors in their times of greatest need.

To Our Ferndale Crew:
Thank you for your tireless dedication. Whether it’s 2:00 AM on a freezing winter night or the height of a summer storm, you answer the call without hesitation. Your professionalism and courage keep our city safe.

To Our Community:
We don’t just work in Ferndale; we live here, raise families here, and care deeply about every street and storefront. Thank you for your continued support, your waves as we drive by, and the trust you place in us every day.

Happy International Firefighters Day! Stay safe, Ferndale

It was a pleasure to welcome Redwood News reporter Christina Mehr to the station today. We met for an insightful conversation about what it truly means to serve as a volunteer firefighter here in Ferndale, and why it is one of the most rewarding paths a person can choose.

As the Public Information Officer for the Ferndale Fire Department, one of my primary goals is to ensure our community knows that our doors are open to those who feel the call to serve. We discussed the realities of the job, the dedication required, the rigorous training, and the unwavering commitment to being there for our neighbors during their most critical moments.

Why Become a Volunteer Firefighter?
Beyond the immediate impact of protecting lives and property, joining the fire service is a profound investment in yourself. During our interview, I emphasized that the skills you gain here extend far beyond the firehouse:

Professional Development: Whether you are an aspiring career firefighter, a student, or working in another industry, the leadership, incident command, and problem solving skills you develop are highly transferable.

Real-World Experience: From emergency medical training to technical rescue operations, you will gain certifications and experience that provide a major advantage in any career path.

Camaraderie and Purpose: You will become part of a tight knit family that stands together through challenges, creating bonds that last a lifetime.

Community Connection: There is no better way to understand the fabric of Ferndale than by serving those who live and work here.

Being a volunteer isn’t just about showing up when the alarm sounds; it’s about a willingness to learn, a commitment to teamwork, and a desire to make a difference. We offer the training and the tools, you bring the dedication.

If you have ever considered joining us, I encourage you to reach out. Your journey could start here, and the impact you make will stay with you forever.

Captain Jif D’Aguanno
Public Information Officer,
Ferndale Fire Department.

Get ready, Ferndale! This Monday April 20th marks the start of Ferndale Fire Department's Annual Drive within city limits. Our dedicated firefighters will be making their way through neighborhoods, offering valuable services and answering any questions you may have about fire safety.

As part of our commitment to keeping our community safe, our team will be happy to check your smoke detectors upon request. Ensuring these vital devices are functioning correctly is a simple yet important step in protecting your home and loved ones.

We understand that everyone has busy schedules, so please be aware that we will be making one attempt to contact each residence. If you happen to be out when we visit, don't worry! We will leave a distinctive red bag at your doorstep. This bag will contain all the essential information about our department, fire safety tips, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Inside the red bag, you'll also find a convenient form. Should you wish to schedule a follow up visit from one of our Department members for a more in depth home inspection or to discuss any specific concerns, simply fill out the form and return it as instructed. We're always happy to assist you in making your home as safe as possible.

Ferndale Fire Department relies on the generosity of our community to continue providing essential services and ensuring the safety of all our residents. Your donations, no matter the size, make a significant difference in our ability to keep our community safe.

To make donating even more convenient we've implemented a Venmo QR code. Simply scan the code found in our flyer with your smartphone to make a secure electronic donation or reach us on Venmo -25. Of course, we will also gratefully accept traditional cash or check donations during our visits.

So keep an eye out for Ferndale Fire Department teams in the coming days. We look forward to connecting with you, answering your questions, and working together to make Ferndale a safer place for everyone. Your support is deeply appreciated!.

Last night, Ferndale Fire Department and Ferndale CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) joined forces for a high intensity training simulation on Milton Avenue.

The exercise focused on a critical scenario: a smoke inhalation victim rescue following a structure fire. Our first responders and volunteers navigated low visibility conditions to locate and safely extract victims, putting their skills to the test in a controlled but realistic environment.

Both agencies practiced communication and coordination, ensuring that in a real emergency, we operate as one cohesive unit. CERT volunteers gained invaluable field experience, preparing them to provide vital support to professional crews during large scale incidents. Every hour spent training on Milton Avenue translates to a faster, safer response for the residents of Ferndale.

Ferndale Fire Department would like to extend a huge thank you to all the CERT members who volunteered their time last night. Your commitment to helping your neighbors and bettering our community is what makes Ferndale so resilient.

We have many more trainings on the horizon! If you want to play an active role in local disaster preparedness and safety, we want to hear from you.

Interested in joining CERT? Please contact Ferndale Police Chief Ron Sligh for information at 707-786-4225.
