Meet Malcolm Carden! 👋

Malcolm is the current Vice President of the Friends of the Ferndale Library (FOFL) and coordinates volunteer participation at local events. He has been volunteering with FOFL since 2025 and previously served as president of the Friends group at his local library in California before moving to Ferndale.

If you see Malcolm at a local event, be sure to stop by and say hello! You’ll likely hear his charming accent, which reflects his English and Scottish heritage. 🇬🇧🏴

Malcolm is always happy to share more information with anyone interested in getting involved with FOFL. Stop by, say hi, and find out how you can get more involved! 📚

The Friends of the Ferndale Library are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and longtime member, Cheryl Fear, who passed away on July 9 after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.

Cheryl is pictured above wearing the turquoise cardigan at the retirement party for former Ferndale Library branch manager, Sarah Koehler. She is surrounded by a group of other dedicated, longtime Friends of the Ferndale Library volunteers. The photo is a wonderful reminder of the many years Cheryl spent supporting our library and working alongside others who shared her love for our community.

Cheryl served the Friends in many roles over the years, including Secretary, Vice President, and Acting President. Her leadership, kindness, and dedication left a lasting mark not only on our organization, but throughout the Ferndale community. She cared deeply about her community and was always willing to share her time, talents, and generous spirit to make it a better place.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have known and worked alongside Cheryl, and we will miss her dearly. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Current FOFL President, Sue Green, along with three active, long-time FOFL volunteers, Meredith Jacobson, Jutta Vanderheyden, and Judy Kelsey visited with Norine and Jamie Amend in Bothell WA. Norine and Jamie were instrumental in helping raise funds to open the current Ferndale library building, previously located in what is now the police station. Norine also served as the FOFL president for many years. We are grateful for their efforts which continue to serve us well today.
