Training Advisory – Horizon Middle School

Throughout the month of June, the Ferndale Police Department will be conducting active shooter / mass casualty response training on Thursday evenings at Horizon Middle School in partnership with Whatcom County Fire District 7.

Training sessions will take place during the early evening hours and are expected to conclude by 8:00 PM.

As part of the training, officers will be using blank ammunition indoors. While it is unlikely anything will be heard outside of the building, community members in the area may notice increased emergency vehicle activity during training times.

At this time, the training will involve only Ferndale Police Department personnel and Fire District 7 medics.

We appreciate the community’s understanding as we continue preparing our first responders for critical incidents and emergency response situations.

Yesterday, the Ferndale Police Department was honored to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics athletes and the mission of inclusion and community.

The LETR Final Leg is a longstanding tradition where law enforcement officers serve as Guardians of the Flame, carrying the “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Games.

In 2026, the Torch Run will make history with the first-ever coast-to-coast Final Leg route for the USA Games. We are proud to support this inspiring tradition and the incredible athletes it represents.

The Ferndale Police Department would like to recognize and celebrate SCOPE Sergeant Bobbi Ferguson on her retirement from the Ferndale Police Department’s SCOPE Program.

For more than a decade, Bobbi has been a dedicated volunteer and a driving force behind the continued success of our Senior Citizens on Patrol Enhancement (SCOPE) program. Her commitment, leadership, and countless hours of service have made a lasting impact on the Ferndale community and the Ferndale Police Department.

For over 25 years, the SCOPE program has supported our department through the hard work of volunteers who patrol parking lots for disabled parking violations, perform security checks on vacant homes, operate radar reader boards, assist with traffic control, and help with community outreach during special events. Volunteers like Bobbi are truly invaluable members of our team.

Bobbi’s dedication to service, positive attitude, and passion for helping others have helped shape the program into what it is today. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for our department and community over the years. Please join us in congratulating SCOPE Sergeant Bobbi Ferguson on her retirement and thanking her for her years of outstanding volunteer service. We wish you all the best in this next chapter, Bobbi — you will be greatly missed!

This week, May 10 to 16, the Ferndale Police Department recognizes National Police Week, a time to honor the service, dedication, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the country.

Established in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting their communities.

We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and thank all law enforcement professionals for their continued commitment to keeping our communities safe.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, at approximately 3:34 a.m., Ferndale Police Officers responded to the 2300 block of Ferndale Terrace following reports of a shooting. Prior to officers’ arrival, the suspect fled the scene. The victim was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

At approximately 8:52 a.m., an individual matching the suspect’s description was observed on Sucia Drive in Sandy Point. Deputies with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Lummi Nation Police Department, Bellingham Police Department, Washington State Patrol, and US Border Patrol responded to the area, located the individual, and confirmed he was the suspect connected to this incident. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

The Ferndale Police Department would like to thank the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Lummi Nation Police Department, Bellingham Police Department, Washington State Patrol, and US Border Patrol for their assistance and coordinated response.

This remains an active investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.

This week, April 12–18, 2026, the City of Ferndale Police Department proudly recognizes National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated each year during the second full week of April, this week honors the dedicated professionals who are often the first point of contact in an emergency.

Our public safety telecommunicators work behind the scenes, answering critical calls, dispatching officers and emergency personnel, and providing calm, life-saving guidance in moments when it matters most. Their voices are a steady presence during some of the most stressful situations our community members may face.

We extend our sincere gratitude to these highly trained individuals for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the Ferndale community. Thank you for all that you do.
