Last Friday, August 28, 2026, Sergeant Blanchard and Downtown Resource Officer Roth attended the Ferndale Public Schools' Back to School Blast on behalf of the FPD. 👮

The Back to School Blast is an annual community event that kicks off the school year with free supplies, resources, and family fun. Thank you to FPS for hosting this event and letting us get involved!🎒✏️📚

Sgt. Blanchard and Ofc. Roth had a great time passing out PD swag and chatting with students. The Department is always committed to keeping our Ferndale students safe, and we hope you all have a great school year! 🏫

Join us every Thursday evening from October 1 to 22, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. If you want to learn more about law enforcement—like patrol, investigations, operations, philosophy, SWAT, and meeting your Ferndale Police Officers—this program is for you! 🌟

Last weekend, the 31st annual Woodward Dream Cruise revved up in Ferndale, where the event itself began! 🛣️

What started as a fundraiser to build a soccer field right here in Ferndale, Michigan, grew into North America’s largest one-day automotive event. 🚗

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured speakers including Mayor Raylon-Leaks May, Woodward Dream Cruise President Michael Lary, Miss Michigan 2026 Grace Hanke, Ben Campbell, JoAnne Purtan, Jason Raithel from WOMC, Carolyn Clifford from WXYZ, former NFL wide receiver Herman Moore, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. 🎤

After Ferndale Police Chief Emmi and Fire Marshall Nutt awarded the winners of the 25th Ferndale Emergency Vehicle Show, the crowd gathered to watch Mayor Leaks-May cut the red ribbon, officially kicking off the festivities. 🏆

The Lights & Sirens Cruise Parade then followed, with police, fire, military, and other EMS vehicles driving down 9 Mile and onto Woodward. 🚨

Thank you to everyone who made this possible, and we hope to see you all cruising again next year! 💚

✅Please make sure vehicles are moved during the indicated dates and times to avoid ticketing or towing.

✅Permit parking restrictions will be lifted during the closures, and permit holders can park in any valid space until normal operations resume.

Start your engines! 🔥 The 31st annual Woodward Dream Cruise rolls into town this weekend, Friday, August 14, and Saturday, August 15, 2026. Enjoy the emergency vehicle show, the Lights and Sirens Cruise Parade, a Kids Play Zone, live music, Mustang Alley, and so much more. Grab some delicious food, snag unique merchandise, and join the parade of classic cars cruising through Downtown Ferndale and surrounding neighborhoods. Pump the brakes! If you plan on attending, please be sure to adhere to the following rules:

🚗 Drive, bike, and walk safely. Stay aware of your surroundings and follow all traffic rules.

🚲 Please keep the back lanes clear for bikers. Do not stand or sit in these areas.

🪑 You can bring chairs and blankets to the median, but tents and grills are not allowed.

🚚 On Saturday, vehicles over 10,000 pounds, including those with attached trailers, are not allowed.

The Ferndale Police Department welcomed our newest officer, Recruit Officer Jake Wolok, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Officer Wolok comes to the Ferndale Police Department after serving approximately one year with the Romulus Police Department. He earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and a bachelorʼs degree in Criminal Justice from Oakland University. He also graduated first in his Wayne County Regional Police Academy class of 48 recruits and received the Kehrl Top Academic Excellence Award.

The Ferndale Police Department looks forward to the experience and professionalism he will bring to the team. Best of luck to Officer Wolok during his field training journey!

An assessment team from the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC) will arrive on Friday, July 24, 2026, to examine all aspects of the Ferndale Police Department policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

➡️ The Ferndale Police Department must comply with 130 standards to achieve accredited status. Accreditation is valid for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports confirming continued compliance with the standards under which it was initially accredited.

➡️ As part of this final On-Site Assessment, the public is invited to provide comments by emailing [email protected]. Please include the agency name in the subject line. If you want your name removed from the final public report, please specify. Comments can be made until Friday, July 24, 2026.

⚠️ The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued a Statewide Air Quality Alert for Wednesday, July 15, and Thursday, July 16, 2026, due to higher levels of tiny particles in the air (PM2.5) from Canadian wildfire smoke.

Because of the increased risk, everyone should limit long or intense outdoor activities. People with lung or heart conditions, adults over 60, pregnant people, and children should stay indoors where the air is cleaner. N95 or P100 masks labeled "NIOSH" are recommended. KN95 and KF94 masks can also help filter tiny particles.

Please see the attached post for helpful information regarding drone activity in the City of Ferndale.

Residents and property owners have shared many concerns and complaints about drone activity in our community. Since the launch of Amazon's Prime Air drone delivery service, Ferndale has experienced more commercial drones flying in our area. We understand this may be frustrating, and want to offer additional information.

➡️ These drones deliver Amazon packages. They fly to a property, lower themselves to drop off the package, then rise and continue on their route. Since Ferndale is nearby, drones often fly over the city to make deliveries.

➡️ The bottom line: Unfortunately, the City of Ferndale does not have the authority to regulate drones flying over the city. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the only agency that controls U.S. airspace. Because Amazon’s drones operate under an FAA Air Carrier Certificate (Part 135), local governments like Ferndale cannot stop flights, create no-fly zones, or control aircraft noise.
