An amazing day for our brilliant and talented LIA students!

Today our students heard a relevant and powerful message during our think About It Thursdays announcement. Since this advice is good for all, we'd like to share, so you and your child can discuss the importance of personal privacy.
💛
Your Life Isn’t Meant for Everyone
We live in a world where it feels normal to share everything — what we’re doing, who we’re with, how we feel, what happened at lunch, what someone said, screenshots, snaps, posts.
But here’s something important to remember:
Not everything needs an audience.
Your thoughts, your friendships, your struggles, your wins — they don’t all belong on social media. Some things are meant to be private. And choosing privacy doesn’t mean you’re hiding something. It means you respect yourself.
Before you post or send something, ask yourself:
• Would I be okay with a teacher or family member seeing this?
• Would I want this shared about me?
• Am I posting because I want attention… or because it really matters?
• Will this still feel okay a week from now?
Social media can make it feel like if you don’t share it, it didn’t happen.
But real life doesn’t need proof.
Private moments are powerful.
Real friendships don’t need constant updates.
And your value isn’t measured by views, likes, or reactions.
You get to decide what stays yours.
Protect your peace.
Protect your friendships.
Protect your story.
💛 Take your privacy seriously — because once something is shared online, it’s no longer fully in your control.
Be thoughtful. Be kind. Be wise.n

Today Horizon students and staff had the privilege of attending an assembly in honor of Treaty Day. Our Lummi and other Native students performed their traditional songs and dances passed down from the Elders. Thank you to the Ferndale High School Lummi Language class/Cheskwin club as well as our HMS Kwechost club.

On behalf of the City of Ferndale: Flood Notice

Staff and families,
We are sharing the following message on behalf of the City of Ferndale as part of our ongoing partnership. Our goal is to help amplify their communication and ensure it reaches as many community members as possible.
FLOOD NOTICE: PLEASE DISTRIBUTE AND SHARE INFORMATION AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEIGHBORS IN POTENTIALLY IMPACTED AREAS
Out of an abundance of caution, the City of Ferndale is warning the public of potential moderate flooding that may impact the areas described below. Due to the unpredictable nature of floods and weather forecasts, the City strongly recommends that the public prepare for potential evacuations of the impacted areas described below.

Residents are advised to be vigilant of rising flood waters beginning Wednesday night, December 10th and continuing into Friday, December 12th. Additional flooding events are possible next week.

Potential areas most affected by projected flooding includes:
• That area south of Main Street between 4th Avenue and the Nooksack River.
• That area including the Whatcom Transit Authority Ferndale Station Facility, the Ferndale Food Bank, and the Pilot/McDonalds retail complex.
• 1580 Main Street, 1625 Main Street, and vicinity.
• That area south of Washington Street and east of 2nd Avenue, north and east of the BNSF railway.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to secure and then evacuate their properties if needed. Residents are requested to avoid any unnecessary trips and to stay off the roadways, in order for emergency and first responders to effectively respond to emergencies if they arise.
Temporary shelter will be made available if needed for households impacted by potential flooding. A safe space to sleep, hot food, and referrals to community resources will be provided at both locations.
