🚧 TRAFFIC UPDATE 🚧

Atmos Energy has shut off the gas, and repair work is now underway.

Birch Street is now open from 5th Street to Magnolia Street only. However, Birch Street remains closed beyond Magnolia Street, and motorists will not be able to travel all the way through.

If you need to continue north on Birch Street, please use an alternate route around the work zone.

Thank you for your patience as crews complete the repairs. We will provide additional updates as they become available.

Please avoid the area of Birch Street and Magnolia Street if possible.

Northbound traffic on Birch Street from 5th Street is currently closed. Road construction crews accidentally struck a gas line, and Atmos Energy is en route to assess and repair the situation.

Please use an alternate route and use caution if traveling near the area. We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to resolve the issue safely.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

🚚 The Mobile Food Pantry is Back This Thursday!

Ferris Community,

As you prepare for this month's Mobile Food Pantry distribution, we want to share an important update about changes coming in July.

Beginning next month, our Mobile Food Pantry will transition to a new software system that will allow you to visit ANY participating food pantry in the area using the same registration and check-in process.

During your visit on June 18, we will provide additional information and answer questions about this upcoming transition.

What to Expect in July:
✅ Returning customers who are already registered should complete registration in less than 5 minutes.
✅ New customers should complete registration in less than 10 minutes.
✅ After your initial setup, future check-ins will take approximately 2 minutes.

Please note:
• Online pre-registration and Fast Pass registration will no longer be available.
• All registration will take place at the distribution site.
• Customers will be asked to verify and update information during each visit.
• Registration will be renewed annually.

The new system includes a digital membership card that will be sent to you by text message. Please save this card to your phone's downloads, photo gallery, or another easy-to-access location. When you arrive at each distribution, simply pull up your membership card so it can be scanned at check-in.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we transition to this improved system. While there may be a brief adjustment period throughout July and the coming months, these changes will help us provide a more efficient experience for all of our customers.

Ferris DPS is continuing to investigate the tragic incident that occurred today in the Shaw Creek area near Tidwell.

Based on preliminary information, a very young child gained access to a fi***rm inside a residence, and another young child sustained a fatal gunshot wound. This appears to have been an isolated incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the community.

An adult male who left the scene after the incident has been located and is now in custody. Ferris DPS is working alongside the Texas Rangers, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ellis County District Attorney’s Office as this investigation continues.

Criminal charges are being pursued in connection with the fi***rm, the accessibility of the fi***rm to a child, and actions taken after the incident. Because this remains an active investigation, additional details will be released only when appropriate.

Our hearts are with the child, the family, and everyone impacted by this devastating loss. We are grateful for the professionalism, coordination, and care shown by Ferris DPS, our first responders, and our partner agencies.

All persons charged are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ferris DPS and first responders are currently on scene in the Shaw Creek area near Tidwell regarding a serious incident involving a child.

Based on the information available at this time, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known ongoing threat to the community.

Residents may notice an increased police and first responder presence in the area while the scene is secured and the matter is investigated. Please avoid the immediate area and allow emergency personnel the space needed to work.

Additional information will be released when it is appropriate to do so.

Hello Ferris Community,

With our current weather forecast, we will be moving our monthly Mobile Food Pantry to the downtown pavilion. Please join us at 10AM tomorrow, May 21st for some great food from the North Texas Food Bank. Line-up will start at 9AM on West 9th Street and turn left onto South Main Street up to the pavilion.

Remember that if you have already registered with us in the past, there is nothing for you to do. If you are new to our Mobile Food Pantry, you can register at the event or you can save some time by completing the registration in advance.
