County EMS is very proud to be able to support the fantastic Polk County Fair 5K Run event once again this year!

The weather was much cooler than last year, so there wasn’t as big a draw to the cooling station, but we cheered for the runners and walkers and bandaged up a skinned knee!

Congratulations to all the participants and to the staff for a wonderful and successful event!

Happy Independence Day!

Please be safe this weekend!

Supervisor children, don’t mix fireworks and alcohol, NEVER “shoot” fireworks off in your hands.

And County EMS wants to extend a huge thank you to all the Soldiers, Airmen and Airwoman, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and Guardswomen, and Marines, past and present, who have served our Nation in our Armed Forces. We are grateful for your service.

Used by any person, children or adults - from car seats to walkers, for young and old, the options are endless! Visit https://rothidtag.com for more information. Come to the open house and we will help you get these on your child’s car seat!

We will have a Kids’ Coloring Contest. Friday - EMS Recognition Day
“EMS, We’re There Because We Care”

County EMS has been providing Advance Life Support (ALS) Emergency Medical Services to the Fertile, Beltrami, Gary, Mentor, and Winger communities since 1977! We started off as a part-time service, providing services during the Polk County Fair and in the summer, but became an full-time EMS service in 1982.

Through the years, County EMS had continued to thrive because of the dedicated people who are the heart and soul of County EMS, the EMTs and medics, who train year-round to keep their knowledge and skills current, and are There Because We Care!

Please join us at our County EMS Open House from 11:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, May 24, 2025!

Thursday - Save-A-Life: National STOP THE BLEED Campaign and Hands-Only CPR
“EMS, We’re There Because We Care”

The leading cause of preventable death after injury is uncontrolled bleeding. This means that if bleeding isn't stopped quickly, it can lead to death within minutes. The STOP the BLEED campaign aims to educate the public on how to control bleeding and save lives. Minutes count! Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED® training.

‘STOP THE BLEED’ Saved a Young Athlete’s Life
In early spring, Brett Baxter, a 13-year-old athlete at Vidor Junior High School, was having a typical day at school, playing football with his friends outside at lunchtime.

But then all of a sudden, he fell through a window, seriously injuring his arm.
The glass severely injured a very large vein and some tendons in Brett’s arm. One of his teachers ran to his side, but Brett was losing a lot of blood very quickly.

Luckily, the school’s campus police officer, Mark Steele was there when it happened. Mark rushed to the scene and knew exactly what to do, thanks to his STOP THE BLEED training. Mark said, “I saw Brett had lost a lot of blood, and my first reaction was to put a tourniquet on him.”

Brett survived, thanks to the quick action of the campus police officer and his training in STOP THE BLEED. Read more here: https://www.christushealth.org/connect/your-health/childrens-health-and-wellness-stories/stop-the-bleed-saved-a-young-athletes-life

Or better yet, get trained yourself! Please participate in the National STOP THE BLEED campaign. Visit https://www.stopthebleed.org/training/ and click on the ONLINE COURSE, then come to our open house for hands-on validation of your new skill!

We will have a drawing for a FREE bleeding control kit ($60 value) and a FREE tourniquet ($25 value) for those who complete STOP THE BLEED training!

How You Can Support County EMS

County Emergency Medical Services is Minnesota's first rural-based advanced life support ambulance service. We have been providing this service since 1982!

However, like all nonprofit ambulance services, we are incredibly challenged. Government and insurance payments do not cover all the services we provide and we can lose between $50 and $1,335 per reimbursed transport.

You can help offset these losses with your charitable contribution today!

Wednesday – EMS for Children Day
“EMS, We’re There Because We Care”

Last year, through a generous donation, we offered FREE Roth ID Tags Emergency Identification System - The Roth ID Tag™ Identification System is an information tag that can be affixed to any car seat or product used by an infant, young child, or person under the care of a parent or guardian – such as a non-verbal adult in an electric wheelchair. In the event of an emergency, the tag can be removed from the item and placed like a bracelet around the user’s wrist. It gives EMS, Fire, and Law Enforcement a name and number to call if there is no one around to speak on behalf of the user. It can contain medical information, such as allergies and medications, seizure disorders, autism, etc. Come to the open house and we will help you get these on your child’s car seat!

Visit https://rothidtag.com for more information on the Roth ID Tag.

The Benefits of Play: Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them.

Come play with us! County EMS recognizes that play is important for kids’ development, and mental and physical health! We want to celebrate children and to play… so we got a bouncy house for the open house. And because the older kids should play too, NEW THIS YEAR is an inflatable Connect-Four Basketball Game!(Come and challenge Chad to a Connect-Four game!)
