The Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District is located in Jefferson County Missouri. The district covers 50 square miles south of Festus and east of Desoto. The district is also bordered by the Mississippi River to the east and Ste. The District provides fire protection and prevention services, technical rescue services, medical emergency responses and hazardous materials responses. On average the

district handles approximately 900 incidents per year. The District is currently staffed with ten full time firefighters. Staffing hours are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Business hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. The District also has volunteer firefighters which respond to calls when they are available.

On Tuesday Aug 18th, Jefferson R7 Fire Protection District's A-Shift helped the Jefferson R7 School District R7Bluejays welcome new employees by giving them hands on training on extinguishing a real fire using an ABC fire extinguisher during their new hire orientation. This training exemplifies the partnership we have between both organizations and the investment in safety for our children. ‼️ The greatest confidence in dangerous heat exists between the I-70 and I-44 corridors, where an Extreme Heat Warning is now in effect.

🥵 Uncertainty surrounds exactly how hot/humid it will be, but the worst conditions will exist in metropolitan areas where urban heat island effects are strongest.

2ND Alarm Residential Fire

At approximately 03:28 hours on today’s date, the Jefferson R7 Fire Protection District along with mutual aid departments were dispatched to a 1st Alarm - Residential Fire in the 2700 block of Huskey Road in unincorporated southeastern Jefferson County, MO. Upon initial dispatch, the caller advised lightning had struck the house and fire was visible.

First arriving units encountered heavy smoke from the roof of the residence and quickly located a well-involved working attic fire. All residents of the home self-evacuated safely prior to our arrival and were uninjured. Residents advised crews they were alerted by smoke detectors sounding in the home shortly after the lightning strike awoke them from sleep and called 911 when they located smoke and flames in the home.

A second alarm was struck at approximately 03:57 hours for additional manpower for suppression efforts. The fire was brought under control at approximately 05:24 hours and units cleared the scene at approximately 08:31 hours.

No firefighters sustained injuries in this incident.

Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District was assisted by the Crystal City Fire Department, DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District, Hematite Fire Protection District, Festus Fire Department, DeSoto City Fire Department, Dunklin Fire Protection District, Herculaneum Fire Department, Hillsboro Fire Protection District, Mapaville Fire Protection District, Big River Fire Protection District, Antonia Fire Protection District, Rock Community Fire Protection District, Goldman Fire Protection District, and the Joachim Plattin Ambulance District.
