Notice: Tomorrow, September 1st, the north side of State Street from the Mad Swirls ice cream shop to Boyd Street will be closed for parking from 6am-3pm for maintenance on the street lights. Please also be aware of volunteers installing ribbons in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness month within the Village.

Here's recent happenings here in the Village:

-Requested bids for road end survey.
-Received three DDA applications for appointment to fill 3 vacant seats.
-Spectrum phone conversion has been unsuccessful due to inability to contact representative; we will consider similar service from current IT provider at next council meeting.
-Great Lakes Energy has repaired and converted street lights to LED for better performance and cost savings on electric.
-Researched liability and collision coverage for Historical Society 1937 Fire Truck under Village policy.
-Met with one company with questions to prepare proposal for park engineer/grant writer. Will review any received bids at next council meeting.
-Received correspondence from a potential grant writer who lives in the community and would like to help with funding Village projects.
-Received bids for leaf dump griding.
-Reviewed training options for DPW.
-Repaired street banner posts.
-Anthony and Pierce road projects have been completed.
-Playground improvements completed.

Repairs are happening at the railroad crossing on State Street. For the time being, the crossing WILL NOT have lights or audible. Conductors have been advised to stop their trains and direct traffic . Please use caution when crossing.

This week's Happenings in the Village:
Facilitated Townhall Meeting-Thank you to those who were in attendance!
Facilitated Village Council Regular Meeting.
Collaborated with Historical Society and Insurance to verify coverage on antique fire truck.
Attended DDA meeting as Village Representative.
Communicated with community member regarding hall rental.
Communicated with Elmer's regarding Anthony & Pierce repairs.
Communicated with FLUA regarding road repairs.
Completed interview with Kalkaska Review regarding ballot. initiative to disincorporate the Village.
Shared with Deputy Whetstone the accolades from Council meeting.
Fielded an inquiry from a seasonal resident about non-resident property owners voting.
Researched legalities of Planning Commission appointments and potential conflicts.

DPW Highlights:
Street light inventory and Great Lakes Energy contact to upgrade and replace Village light network.
Researched last griding of Leaf Dump and began process to acquire bids to do so again.
Acquired concrete for park renovations to support the DDA

Thank you to DPW (Patrick), DDA, and the many community members who worked to clean and make improvements to our ballpark. We could not do this good work alone, it take a Village as they say!

Tomorrow is our Ballpark Volunteer Day! Please join us to install new to us playground equipment as well as cleaning and painting of current park structures. As a result of this work, the Fife Lake Ballpark will be temporarily closed starting at 10am on 7/18/26.

If you are uncomfortable being outside with the air quality, we understand. Unfortunately, our equipment installation expert is only available tomorrow to volunteer his time.

Please join us on Wednesday, July 15th for our Village Townhall Meeting at 6pm at the Fife Lake American Legion Post 219 Fife Lake MI. Agenda topics include: Budget/Finances, DPW, Parks, Roads, Planning, DDA, Petition and General Q&A.

Unfortunately, we have had some vandalism at the skate park this week. This is just one instance that makes our jobs harder. We are having issues with pedestrian crossing signs being moved/disappearing, trash cans being bent and graffitied, boat dock damage, buoys being tampered with, recycle bin items that are not recyclable, etc. If you see something, say something. Contact information is on our website at www.fifelakevillage.org.

-Looking into options for brush pile to get an idea of costs to get it in compliance.
-Flower and tree watering is in full swing during these HOT days of summer, along with water tank repairs.
-Collaboration with DDA on playground installation. Looking for volunteers on 7/18, starting at 10am and Ballpark.
-Confirmed Anthony resurface and Pierce wedging schedule: Prep work Friday 7/17 and paving Tuesday 7/21 (weather permitting).
-Huge thank you to the Village of Kingsley for the use of their barriers for the 4th of July and their willingness to collaborate and support our DPW. Meeting with Kingsley DPW Supervisor this week.
-Buoy retrieval and inspection completed after reported rouge buoy!
-Connected Historical Society with website contact regarding William Fife.
-Met with GT County regarding roads should disincorporation occur.
-Part time DPW posting completed.
-Began MML Property Pool Insurance updates.
-Townhall meeting prep and advertisement. (Please spread the word).
-Met with elector regarding road ending.
-Discussed Lakeside Park improvements with elector with ideas/suggestions.

Fun fact: Village taxes are billed and collected one time a year, billed in July and due in September.
