To the customers of the Fifth Ward Water System:

Please be advised that the management of the Fifth Ward Water System has been proactive in advance of this winter weather event. Each of our water well sites and our booster station site is equipped with emergency generators to ensure water availability in the event of loss of power from Cleco.

We have ensured that all water tanks have been filled to capacity.

There is no need to fill bathtubs or other containers for emergency storage of water. This excess use, combined with dripping faucets, etc., could challenge our ability to maintain system pressure.

Please CONSERVE WATER to help protect the water system and prevent the water tanks from running low.

If you choose to drip your faucet, only use a small, slow stream.

DO NOT leave faucets running.

Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.

Excess water usage during a freeze can drain our water tanks and could lead to system-wide issues.

Everyone's aware of the cold weather we are expecting in the next few days. Please try and do as much preparation as you can to limit the amount of dripping faucets that you have going. Everyone's situation will be different. Some may be able to isolate an area that's not needed much by turning off a valve and opening a faucet on that line to drain it, instead of letting an unused area drip, causing extra demand on the system and extra usage on the customer. We are Aware that some faucets will need to be running to prevent freeze. But try and do your part to minimize when possible. Most faucets won't need to be running even when temps reach 32 degrees. Especially if it's only for a hr or 2. The major areas when temps get well below freezing will be your north facing areas outside. As always we are prepared and have all equipment and personnel on stand by. But your preparation to reduce flow when possible helps greatly.
