FRC offers MRSS (Mobile Response & Stabilization Services) to youth ages 0-21 residing in Hancock County. Referrals are initiated based on a “family-defined crisis” and typically result in 4-6 weeks of additional support and stabilization that is offered to the family. During the identified time of crisis, the team can respond via telehealth and/or face-to-face depending on the situation. The team will establish rapport and help stabilize the crisis, provide linkage and referrals, and ultimately assist in enhancing communication, problem-solving, and a more positive family dynamic.

Check out what Katherine Porter, Hancock County Assistant Public Defender, has to say about why she supports Welcome to a New Life:

"While perhaps a cliché, the saying "it takes a village” is all too accurate when it comes to supporting our fellow community members who are battling addiction. . . The Public Defender's Office has witnessed what Welcome to a New Life can do for individuals who are navigating their way through the criminal justice system. Having an additional support via their mentorship increases the likelihood the mentee will remain compliant with court orders, and lessens the likelihood of future incarceration."

The Public Defender’s Office will be closed Monday, June 20th in observance of Juneteenth. We will resume normal business hours Tuesday, June 21st.

Did you know? Juneteenth was declared a federal holiday in 2021, but has been celebrated since the late 1800s. On June 19, 1865, about two months after the Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, Va., Gordon Granger, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended. General Granger’s announcement put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been issued more than two and a half years earlier, on Jan. 1, 1863, by President Abraham Lincoln.

We were honored to be invited to Welcome to a New Life’s Annual Recognition Breakfast this morning with Keynote Speaker Sam Quinones, author of “Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Op**te Epidemic” and “The Least of Us: True Tales of America and Hope in the Time of Fentanyl and Meth.” Mr. Quinones discussed the importance of community in combatting addiction. We are fortunate as a community to have organizations like WNL that work alongside us in this fight with their hard work, dedication, and compassion for others.
