I watched Council's meeting tonight and a couple of thoughts.

So much conversation around the closing of Cory Street. Seems there were two very different discussions happening. The overreach of the original 90 day closure. And then the effect on the corridor by Great Scot. Seems that solutions on the traffic issue could have been done while this road was closed. It was mentioned that a couple things were looked at. But no real solutions.

I appreciated Danny DeLong and Rodney Phillips for being a nay on pushing through ordinances with the emergency clause. Simply to get them off the table. I get that it adds another reading or two but in my opinion if everything with the emergency clause is pushed through then nothing is truly an emergency. The Law Director said it wouldnt make a difference since its already been so long.

Nice job Vote Shaun Mason speaking on the taxi vetting and licensing. It's interesting that after you spoke that now it's more clear that this will only affect two cab companies. Two. According to the Law Director. Is that not a waste of our resources to be regulating two companies, if that is truly the case?

And I may have missed it - but where has Mr. Stashiak been at the meetings this year? I found his input and perspective interesting to hear in comparison to the other City representatives.

Thank you The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation for recognizing the need of childcare in Findlay and Hancock County. This has been in so many studies for many years and it's encouraging to see it being addressed - at least at the foundation level. It's an interesting concept, cost sharing childcare between grants, employer and parents.

Did you know the average cost of childcare for one child in Hancock County is $10,000 per year? For every one childcare spot, ten kids are waiting. Together, we can address the growing childcare problem in our community. Donate now: https://www.community-foundation.com/rooted

Vote Shaun Mason had a great article published in the letters to editor. In watching the council meeting last week it was nice to see at least two members vote no on the budget. It was interesting others had concern but yet voted yes. I understand not having an approved budget "is not a good look" - but yet, it's so important that council is comfortable with what is approved. This may be an odd question - but if we don't get our income until the end of January - why doesn't the city run on a different fiscal year? Would it cause that much disruption if the fiscal calendar ran after expenses and income for the prior year were determined?

I was not able to attend the Council meeting today, and am watching online.

BRAVO to Findlay for All and all of the speakers who showed up. You made your voices heard over these last weeks. The loitering ordinance was voted DOWN.

Definitely another action packed night at Council. Standing in line to even get through security, a line behind me - means that this community is standing up. Speaking out. For the things they don't think are fair. For our neighbors that deserve to just be. Particularly the loitering ordinance,.the farm animal ordinance and the city selling city properties without fair and open bidding opportunities.

Kudos to our neighbors who stood up to speak. And to members of our community for organizing ahead of the meeting to protest peacefully.

I will say I appreciate the mayor suggesting the loitering ordinance be removed. But yet, Mr. Russell recommended moving it to the next meeting to discuss yet again. I would be curious as to why. When, again, one particular business seems to be the cornerstone of this issue. ONE.

I was proud of this community for stepping up and showing out at this meeting. Overflow, standing room only. I think the fact that so many are voicing their concerns is because they believe everyone who lives here deserves to be here. Existing. Living their lives. There was only one particular business mentioned when someone asked about complaints. One. There were however hypothetical fear opinions. Talking about people high and strung out just standing in business doorways. But again, no actual complaints. Be kind.

I feel very proud of the campaign I ran. Thank you to all who trusted me with your vote. I can only hope that the new council steps up to listen, makes decisions by asking questions that matter and values the important job they have now been given. We will all be watching. Until next time my friends.

Ward 3 deserves this kind of leadership. Shaun has my vote!!

Tomorrow is Election Day.

I want to say something simple and honest.

This campaign has never been about titles or influence or who knows who. It has always been about people. About neighbors talking to neighbors. About parents who care about the future their kids will inherit. About folks who love this city enough to want it to grow and do better for everyone who calls it home.

My opponent was chosen in rooms I was not invited to by people who have always had a voice in our government. I do not think that makes them bad. But it does make this moment important, because our community deserves leaders who rise from the community itself, not simply from the recommendation of those who already hold power.

I am running because I believe everyday people deserve a seat at the table. People who work hard. People who show up. People who give more than they take and try to leave things better than they found them. I believe a city is strongest when regular folks get to help shape its future.

I have been humbled by every conversation on a porch, at a park, at a soccer field, at the grocery store, or in line somewhere when someone recognized me and said, "I hope you win. We need someone like us up there."

Tomorrow, you get to decide what kind of leadership we want in Findlay. Leadership that comes from tradition and familiarity, or leadership that comes from listening, effort, and a genuine belief in the people who make this place special.

I would be honored to earn your vote. Whatever happens tomorrow, I am grateful for this community and proud to stand with you.

See you at the polls. ♥️

What a fun evening supporting Findlay YMCA at the Men who Cook fundraiser. So much food.

My daughter attended the YMCA childcare center for years. She went to the summer camps and during COVID attended camp at Riverside park. That summer camp year in particular was a lifesaver. The staff is always amazing. ❤️

Reminder that the regularly scheduled council meeting for next week will now be on Wednesday, November 5th. There is a lot on the agenda and I know that many have concerns on a couple of the ordinances that will be addressed.

The regularly scheduled Findlay City council meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 5th due to election day on November 4th.

Sharing, as Vote Shaun Mason spelled out this new proposed ordinance well. I believe this is a slippery slope - while addressing one 'problem' it opens interpretation up to all sorts of 'Unlawful Congregation'. Depending on what someone deems 'unlawful' is not fully clear. I encourage you to attend next week's city council meeting, being held on WEDNESDAY 11/5 (not Tuesday as usual) - If you disagree with this proposed ordinance as written - sign up to speak, attend to support those who are speaking.
