Finleyville Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce another major step forward in improving emergency response capabilities for our community.

We have officially upgraded all of our apparatus with iPads connected directly to the WCDPS - Washington County Department of Public Safety 911 CAD system. This technology provides our crews with real-time incident updates, mapping, response information, and enhanced communication capabilities while responding to emergencies.

In addition to CAD capabilities, these devices also provide our members with immediate access to a variety of emergency responder applications and resources right at their fingertips. From preplans and hydrant locations to weather monitoring, mapping, incident command tools, and firefighter safety applications, having this technology readily available allows our crews to make more informed decisions and operate more efficiently on emergency scenes.

These upgrades allow our members to better track calls, access critical incident details faster, improve situational awareness, and ultimately provide a more efficient and effective response to the residents and visitors we proudly serve.

As emergency services continue to evolve, Finleyville VFD remains committed to investing in technology and tools that improve firefighter safety, operational efficiency, and service to our community.

A special thank you to WCDPS 911 for their assistance in getting us setup and connected. We look forward to utilizing this technology to better serve our community every day.

This weekend, members from the
Finleyville Volunteer Fire Department and Elrama Vol. Fire Co. of Union Township took time out of their Saturday evening and Sunday morning to participate in a Night Burn Class featuring live fire training scenarios.

Training evolutions included, but were not limited to, establishing and securing a water source to supply a fire attack engine, practicing fire suppression techniques, ladder operations, and conducting VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search) operations. Members also trained on both modern and traditional search and rescue techniques, gaining valuable hands-on experience in locating and removing victims under simulated fire conditions.

This training not only provided important learning opportunities for both new and seasoned members, but also helped strengthen and improve the working relationship between Finleyville Volunteer Fire Department and Elrama Volunteer Fire Company. Training together builds teamwork, communication, and coordination that directly benefits the communities we proudly serve.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the fire instructor team for their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to share a wealth of knowledge with all participating members. Opportunities like this are invaluable in helping us better serve and protect our communities.

A great accomplishment by an even better person!! Congrats Adam Smoley! 👏

Congratulations to Firefighter/EMT Adam Smoley on successfully earning his Pro Board Fire and Emergency Services Instructor 1 Certification through the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy! Adam completed a 40 hour training course followed by an extensive skills evaluation and written examination to demonstrate the competencies to earn this nationally recognized certification.

Keep up the great work, Adam!

Today, on National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day, we pause to honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others—but especially three of our own.

We remember Arvin Kegel, John Stark, and Roy Simmons—brothers who answered the call and gave their lives while responding to an emergency. Their dedication to protecting this community reflects the very best of the fire service: courage in the face of danger, selflessness without hesitation, and a commitment that runs deeper than words can express.

Their helmets now rest as a solemn reminder of the price paid, but their legacy lives on in every call answered, every life protected, and every firefighter who continues to serve in their honor.

We will never forget their sacrifice. We will always carry their memory forward.

Please join us in keeping their families, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts today.

Today was another great day connecting with the amazing kids at Sonshine Tree Preschool at Crossroads Ministries for their annual Safety Day! Our crew had a blast showing off the trucks and giving the kids a chance to spray some water. There’s nothing better than seeing their excitement firsthand.

A big thank you to our outstanding mutual aid partners who helped make the day a success: North Strabane Township Police Department, SouthEast Regional EMS, and Elrama Vol. Fire Co. of Union Township. We truly appreciate your continued support and teamwork in making events like this so meaningful for the community.
