At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, we responded to a serious three-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Firestone Blvd and East I-25 Frontage Road.

The crash involved three vehicles, including a semi-truck. Preliminary investigation indicates the semi-truck was traveling northbound on the Frontage Road when a southbound pickup truck turned in front of it. The semi-truck struck the pickup broadside, then swerved to the right and collided with a third vehicle that was turning north onto the Frontage Road from Firestone Blvd.

Six individuals were transported to area hospitals, several with serious injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours while first responders assisted the injured and officers conducted the on-scene investigation. The roadway has since been fully reopened to traffic.

This crash remains under active investigation. We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash camera footage of the incident to please contact 720-652-4222 and ask to speak with a Firestone police officer.

This is an important reminder to use caution at intersections, carefully assess approaching traffic, and avoid rushing turns. Taking an extra moment to ensure the roadway is clear can help prevent serious crashes.

We appreciate the patience of our community during the road closure and thank all assisting first responders for their swift response. Our thoughts are with those injured and their families.

Before school let out, our officers had the opportunity to participate in the final Unified Sports soccer game at Centennial Elementary School. Throughout the spring, officers attended practices, cheered on the team, and built meaningful relationships with the students. ⚽💙

Programs like Unified Sports create incredible opportunities to build confidence, encourage inclusion, and foster positive connections between youth and law enforcement. While our officers are there to support the students, we know they walk away from the experience having gained just as much.

We heard many “thank yous” from the school, families, and participants — but we want to extend our gratitude in return. Thank you for welcoming us and allowing our officers to be part of such a special program. It was an honor to celebrate these students, their teamwork, and their accomplishments throughout the season.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to strengthen relationships, connect with our community, and support our Firestone kids who make it so special.

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. 💙

Established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy and Congress, this day—and the week it falls within, known as National Police Week—honors the law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting others.

Here in Firestone, we pause to remember two individuals who made that ultimate sacrifice.

Officer Richard E. Hart, age 34, passed away on October 18, 1982, from injuries sustained while attempting to contact a driver leaving the scene of an accident.

We also honor Acting Town Marshal Eustache Re, age 25, who was killed on January 18, 1919, after responding to a disturbance and attempting to remove an intoxicated individual from a dance hall.

Though separated by decades, both men served this community with courage and dedication.

Today—and every day—we remember their sacrifice.

“Dude, never have I ever.”

Over the weekend, our officers had an encounter with an angry resident that we feel is important to share with the community.

It stood about 16 inches tall, had brown hair, really large teeth, and weighed approximately 35–45 pounds. Using our critical incident training, officers attempted to guide it out of the intersection and to a safer location using calm reasoning… but it wasn’t budging.

In the end, officers were finally able to convince it to move along with the assistance of a traffic cone. 🦫🚓

All jokes aside, we’re always happy to help — whether it’s a serious emergency, a community concern, or an unexpectedly stubborn wildlife encounter. We’ll be here when you need us.

🚲⚡ E-Bikes & E-Motorcycles in Firestone

We’ve received a lot of questions recently about what’s allowed on streets, trails, and in parks, especially as higher-powered e-bikes and e-motorcycles become more common in our community.

🏍️ While some of these look like bikes, they are classified as motor vehicles or motorcycles under Colorado law and may require registration, insurance, and a valid license.

📖 Colorado Law Reminder: e-bikes follow many of the same rules as traditional bicycles and must obey traffic laws and posted trail/park restrictions.

🚦 Please ride responsibly, follow traffic laws, and obey posted trail and park rules to help keep everyone safe.
