As part of preparations for Fisher Sesquicentennial's Celebration, the Village made the decision to excavate the community time capsule in advance of the event. This decision was made with public safety in mind, as specialized equipment was required to safely remove the capsule from the ground. Additionally, after many years underground, the condition of the capsule’s contents was uncertain due to groundwater and other environmental factors.
To preserve this historic moment, the entire process—from excavation to the opening, cataloging, and preservation of the contents—was carefully documented. The items recovered from the time capsule will be on display at the Community Building between 1-3 PM on Sunday, July 5th. This display will provide residents with an opportunity to view the contents, identify items contributed by family members, and claim those items through a simple sign-out process which will take place from 3-4 pm that same day.
Any items that remain unclaimed will be included in a new time capsule to be reburied for future generations. Additional details regarding the new time capsule, including how residents can contribute items for its planned opening in 2076, will be announced at a later date.
We recognize the excitement and interest surrounding this special piece of Fisher’s history and appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we work to preserve these memories for generations to come.
